Help Time Without A Signal 50%?

Wally World

Android Expert
Is there any fix for this? Seems to have happened after I did the 228 update. Has to be killing the battery life.

It's funny, this is definitely a bug but I haven't seen it affect my battery life.

I get seriously fantastic battery life and still see this bug sometimes, with no ill effects. I think it's just a reporting problem, because I definitely don't get 50% loss of signal.

Like binary visions, and I'm sure many others, it's not killing the battery life. If your battery life seems less than normal, it's something else.

I am seeing a -90dba to -95dba signal at my house. Is this good or bad?
from what ive read about DBA (in general)-1 is better then -100. but with cell phones they say (google) -50 to -70 is good.. im at -87 in my apt and never have any problems except wireless teether is slow. they say dba signal has no effect on download speed, but that is not the case with me...i did a test at my parents house. they have the Verizon 3g usb modem. and it sucks, although i didnt use any speed test sites. just webpage loading, my phone tethered to the pc was noticeable faster then the usb modem, and faster then at my place. signal was at -55.

Try wiping the battery stats in recovery. It usually clears this problem for me. (For awhile anyways).

Putting it in airplane mode and turning off the screen for a couple of seconds will usually clear it up. I haven't seen it since switching to other ROMs but I had always had it with 2.2. I think it's a bug in Moto's software

What is considered good?

That signal is adequate and is NOT causing the 50% "time without a signal" problem.

It's not a great signal, but it's not completely awful. I get -97 at my desk at work (this building is murder on cell phones; my iPhone had no coverage at all) and average about 500 kbps download data speeds

I've seen as high as -62 around town, but I have no trouble making calls with -90 or lower.

Thanks. Is that signal strength the same as the data signal strength(3g)?

You mean 50% Cell Standby?

If that's what you mean, it seems to be a bug of sorts on VZW network's phones. My LG Ally does the same thing.

Here's the steps to get mine "fixed" (Temporarily):

* Put phone in Airplane Mode
* Power phone off
* Power phone back on
* Take phone off Airplane Mode

Takes care of it on my Ally, so maybe on the Droid X it'll work.

Yes, when you click on Cell Standy I get a message on the screen-51% of time without a signal.

Ok, try the Airplane mode trick. It "fixes" it until my next power-off (Which just means I have to remember to put in phone in Airplane mode before powering off). Let us know if it works.

You shouldn't have to power it off all the way. Just put it in airplane mode and turn off the screen for a couple of seconds. Then back on and out of airplane mode. It'll take time for it to drop since it is based on a time ratio but it works.
