Help tiny display dots were greatly disappointing

Wow, visible dots don't affect the look of the phone? Ok. :) Next. :)

bro i have agreed with you on lots but the dots arent visible in everyday use. There only visible if you're looking for them many people have and have played with my pone and no one noticed. You want to nit pick and make this trivial reason a thing and make it why you returned an excellent phone than fine but dont act like its a big deal and anyone out there is A) gonna notice B) gonna care and C) gonna return a great phone for something as inane as this

yea this is insanity and honestly a lame reason to not give a great phone a chance
Absolutely

It makes me mad because AT&T Android fans have been waiting for what seems forever for a high end Android device, especially a high end HTC device.

Now that its here with all of its 4.3 inch screened beauty, people dont give it a chance because of some tiny dots that you reeeeally have to pay attention to to even notice, at a certain angle, in certain lighting.

Wow, its disappointing but I guess its their loss cause the Inspire is really an amazing phone/device

no offense to anyone on here but if this is the reason you dont get the phone or return it well than you are just looking for a reason to hate it. Beside the fact that the OP with his last line looses all credibility as the display is nowhere near substandard and many reviews have stated it is one of the best

I saw them in pretty much every lighting condition - powered on or not. Personally unacceptable. I am sure for most it won't be.

If the battery cover was pink then sure it would effect the look of the phone. lol

Some dots under the screen that arent noticeable unless you put it in direct lighting doesnt, in my opinion, effect the overall look of the phone. In no way what so ever.

Im with AC on this one, thats insanity and might be a sure sign of OCD or something. "Its not that you can see them all the time, its the fact I know that they are there!! Im gonna flip out!" lol

No one on this forum noticed till you brought it up and I'm sure your incorrect, for the vast majority no one will give a shite

Actually I noticed it when I bought it, and pulled out another to make sure it wasnt isolated, but other then that I have not payed attention to it since. It needs to be the right light and angle to see it..No big deal to me and to each his own..

I can't understand getting even the tiniest bit bent out of shape over something that in no way impedes the functionality of this magnificent device. I noticed the dots on more than one occasion, but never thought twice about them. There has to be something wrong w/ the folks who actually go so far as to return their Inspire over something as trivial as this.

Curious as to why its unacceptable

I ask because either you have eyes like a bald eagle or you cant really see them (especially when the screen is on) and just think it shouldnt be there because it is a high end device, like you already stated in the other thread. Almost everyone that has commented about this has said its not a big deal and I would safely say that the majority of people have commented it has to be in certain lighting and at certain angles. So even if you have eyes like a bald eagle why exactly is it unacceptable, and im not being an ass about it, im just curious as to your logic behind this? Honestly

Because I don't like seeing artifacts on or under the screen. That pretty much sums up my whole problem with it.

My biggest complaint is the lack of a native Japanese IME. Of course this is an Android wide thing apparently since for whatever reason Google has decided not to include a Japanese IME on their mobile OS.

My other half loved the phone, but the lack of a Japanese IME will keep her with the iPhone which has one native. A shame considering how much more fun the Droid phone is!

When the screen is on you can't see them. When its off you have to look for them in order to see them. I never even realized they were there till I saw people's complaints here.

They don't look bad since you can't see them without blatantly looking for them, and they don't affect how the screen looks when its turned on so I really fail to see any reason to complain about it.

But thats just my $0.02

Yeah I noticed them as well, and while it was a (small) disappointment, it wasn't bad enough to return the phone. Hell, I've come across a few other disappointments with this phone and I still love it. Like the poster above said, to each his own. If you find THE perfect phone, let me know.

Having said that, I understand your complaint and it's definitely valid :) I'm just happy ATT finally has a decent Android (Nexus One was pretty solid as well). Was getting tired of my Captivate with features that didn't even work.

I have to actually try to see it to actually see them, so it's no big deal to me.

Also why are dots so bad?

Do most low quality displays have them and high quality displays don't?

I dont care about such trivial things, and as such didnt notice until it was posted about in the other thread. So in with the who gives a dang crowd.

Look man, my point was you have to have the phone in the right light and at the right angle, so no in my opinion, it does not affect the "LOOK" of the phone...No need to be a jerk about it.

So I go to check out an Inspire today thinking I'm just about ready to go this route after trying the Captivate for about a month. The first thing I notice out of the box was the tiny dots on the display screen.

Regardless of their importance or need, this proved to be a fatal flaw in design for me to now remotely consider purchasing this phone.

I suppose using the Captivate has spoiled me. I saw no reference to the tiny dots in the many reviews I encountered the past few weeks. This was surprising to me given the popularity of Htc and their devices.

I now understand these dots are common in these types of displays. But now I'm even more confused as to why anyone would sink themselves in a contract with such a substandard display.

How's that GPS working for you? They ever fix that?

These dots / grids are there on every screen. Some more easily seen than others. I can clearly see the grid (no dots on my iPhone 4) as I can see them on a 3gs. And they are hardly viable when the screen is on. Hardly a reason to return this amazing phone and go back to my ip4

The Inspire elitist attitude makes the forums here a difficult place to want to come to (and yes, I have one). When someone posts that they don't like something about the phone, instead of agreeing but saying it's not a problem for you, or trying to help the person, everyone calls them names and dismisses their opinion. This is a place to post about the phone and share with the group, not a place to win the approval of a couple forum members who take it personally if someone doesn't think this phone is perfect.

I do see the dots, but not on a regular basis and I am loving the phone so far. For me, the dots are not a deal breaker but I can see how it could bother others. The one thing I keep thinking to myself is that this phone is such a awesome value for the price. Since others compared this to the captivate, I'll say that that phone caused me grief from the day I got it. Yes, the display was wonderful but it proved no use. This phone has worked great from the instant I got it, which is light years ahead of what I had. HTC knows what they are doing on the software side and I can overlook some of the hardware annoyances.

i still don't know what you guys are talking about. I was playing dungeon defenders a little last night and the screen is .... well, its awesome. I don't look at the phone when its off. When I want to use it I turn it on and it looks.....awesome.

I don't understand why inspire lovers get so defensive when someone says they dont like this phone. I happen to really enjoy this phone, but I understand the complaints. Some people are obviously more sensitive to the dots than others. Big deal. If you enjoy the phone, why do you care that someone else does not.

I am not sensitive to the dots, so it doesn't bother me. But I can certainly understand that it can be annoying to others. To say that returning the phone because of the dots is ridiculous, merely because the dots dont bother you, is absurd. No one should suffer with a phone they arent happy with. This is why there are so many phones out there, because dirferent people have different preferences. Coming from the captivated, I'm just happy I've found a phone I enjoy.

Peace

The Display Type is: S-LCD capacitive touchscreen.

If you read up on this technology you will learn about those "dots".

They are _not_ artifacts, so please don't criticize a technology you don't understand.

These dots are part of what makes this such a stellar display. The fact that they bother some people reflects more about the person than the display.

If one is looking for faults or problems, please at least take the time to educate yourself, instead of condemning something you know nothing about.

Cheers :)

I see them. I don't know what they're there for but once the screen is on, I am not focused on them. Actually, I'm not focused on the screen either. Glasses are a wonderful thing. Take them off and you really can't see nearly as well :)
