Help Tips for a new DX2 user

I will be getting a Droid X2 in a few days, just wanted to know if there are any hints/tips that I should be aware of. Things like certain features/settings that are useful but sort of hidden in the menus.

Also is there a running list of "known issues" that way if I run into them, I know they are basically impacting all DX2s and not just mine?

Take a look at a few threads here, people have been talking about the known issues, some threads are discussing the issues in great detail. You can't really miss them. Audio skipping and popping and random reboots.

Please do not forget the third main one: Accumulated lag, which seems due to the low available ram (or just crappy firmware). If you use the device steadily, the DX2 tends to lag after about an hour or so of use. I would reboot the DX2 myself to clear it, but the reboots took care of that ;) .... :(

This tends to happen on the DX1 also. I use an app called fast reboot that clears memory easily. I also notice on the DX1 that a factory reset is needed every couple of months as things seem to degrade where the OS isn't working quite right. I wouldn't be surprised if the same issue isn't prevalent on the DX2 also. I'll know soon enough I have a DX2 enroute so I can compare.

Buying full price, discount, or used device?

If I could find one for $250 with no strings attached, I would probably jump. The concern now is with the Bionic MAYBE within four weeks, I want to hold off and see how that may pan out.

I guess my Inc 1 will have to cover until then. Perhaps we will see news about Gingerbread for the DX2 as well (based on current reports about VZW rejecting releases- maybe not).

That may also impact the Bionic timing as well....

You know, even at $450 the DX2 seems a good buy IF the issues were fixed. At least that way, the device is covered for a year by VZW.

No, not even close to full price. Your guess is closer to the mark, albeit a bit low. I don't know why I did this actually. It was spur of the moment. Good price on a basically new DX2, so I offered and they accepted. Even if the Bionic is out in 4 weeks, if the DX2 is working well I can use it for a bit longer to see just how the Bionic fares as a new device. The DX2 is still going to be worth at least as much as I paid for quite a while. Heck, my DX1 is worth as much or more than I paid for it going by ebay prices. I plan on keeping my DX1 as a backup phone/mini tablet for my daughter to use to play games, etc. Anyway, it's looking like my DX2 won't get here until tomorrow, and unfortunately I leave early tomorrow morning out of state and won't be back home until wednesday, so it will be almost a week until I get to find out if I made a mistake or not.

I picked up a cache cleaner not too long ago and have been using that every so often and it really seems to clear things up if I start to get some lag. I was rather surprised to see how much crap some apps have been dropping in there.

Quick Cache Cleaner doesn't require root and it breaks down what each app is leaving in the cache. It doesn't stop the audio messing up or the random reboots, but lately the those two issues have been less frequent, and it does REALLY help when it starts to lag a bit.
