Tired of Verizons Bullshit "most reliable" claim

I heard a rumor today that 4G is coming to my area by the end of the year. That would be handy since I just bought an Incredible 4G from Hawksnest. Verizon lit up 4G twenty miles east of here a few days ago.

I have found poor signal can wreak havoc on a 4G connection. At my old desk, it was in and out all day. Also the network in my area seems a little iffy on the 3G/4G transfer. I will say, steel buildings seem to affect it the most, and NYC has a couple of those. :p

Yeah and having poor data connection for 3G/4G can wreak havoc on your battery life too :(

But i live in Cincinnati and i seriously always have 4G, it's great, i guess it really depends on where you live, but Verizon's 4G LTE is literally the best by a long shot.

I've heard of network extenders. Someone said they called Verizon and told them they wanted to cancel because they don't get service at their house and Verizon sent them a network extender thing for free

Apparently in my area they are letting people cancel their Verizon service without an ETF rather than giving them network extenders. They did, of course, offer to let me purchase one. My husband flat out refuses to leave Verizon (although he has been paying for service we don't get for more than 10 years). I mostly use my cell phone when I'm not at home and I get great service everywhere except with a 3 mile radius of my house.

I suspect that it depends on when you call, and how many Network extenders they have in stock, and when the next model is coming out (came out). Once the one's they have on hand become obsolete, they are probably much more generous with them.

There's also network extenders you can rig up yourself with household items. Probably won't work/look as good as a manufactured one. I personally haven't tried any, I get good service at home and bad service at work.
There's plenty of how to's on YouTube.

Those are completely different things (albeit to fix similar problems. Also, several 3rd party companies make electronic signal boosters that repeat and amplify the carriers signal). What you're talking about boosts a weak signal, making it stronger insider your house. They don't help if you don't receive any useable signal. The Verizon Network Extender is essentially a miniature cell tower, that connects to your homes internet connection. So it can provide service where none exists now.

So Verizon will sell you a femto-cell that connects to your internet connection so you can use your Verizon phone that you pay a monthly fee for. And the femto-cell has a range of 40 feet. What a deal. I thought that the whole point of cell phones was that you could make a phone call without a land line. Silly me.

Would you rather they didn't sell them, so people in their situation (where they have signal at places other than their home) didn't have that option?

I'd rather that Brezhnev built out their network. I can see their closest tower but can't connect to it. I can't buy a land line to every one of my customers houses, install a femto-cell there and stay under 40 feet away. Just my 30 cents here but Verizon should at least pretend to try to make an effort to provide service to their customers. It's not happening.

Not to be blunt, but you aren't one of their customers so they don't have any obligation to provide you service. No more than a restaurant in Chicago is obligated to open in Minneapolis because there might be potential customers there. Even if you were one of their customers, that doesn't obligate them to put a tower up your block. No more than being a customer at a sushi restaurant obligates them to start making you pasta, just because you want it.

And I can't believe i have to tell you this but when you live in the middle of nowhere, you have to expect to be low on people's priorities. The upshot is Verizon can't put towers everywhere, they CAN'T build towers that only serve 3 people, and areas with 10 people per square mile will be a lower priority than places with 1000.

Oh, and the network extender doesn't use a land phone line, it uses your internet. It wasn't clear from your posts that that was what you were talking about with a "land line".

Those complaining that Verizon's service is bad must live in the middle of nowhere or they are blowing it out of proportion.
Verizon has the best service in the U.S. All the way across the board, and when it comes to LTE coverage it's no contest. Verizon puts the other top 3 carriers to shame. Combine all of the top 3 carriers LTE coverage together and you still don't come close to big reds coverage.

Um I pay Verizon $80/month. How does that make me not a customer? And if I can see the tower I'm not in the middle of nowhere. It's when I go to my customers' and friends' homes that I lose service. Verizon is really spotty here. USCellular is better. I'm locked in to Verizon.

Sorry, I thought you said you weren't with Verizon (missunderstood, my bad). So really none of what I said applies to you since I was referring to the previous posters situation where they get coverage everywhere other than their house.

If you're unsatisfied with Verizon's coverage, call them up and cancel. If they aren't providing you with acceptable service, leave (they SHOULD let you out of the ETF, but since you get coverage at home they aren't required to).

I am the previous poster who gets service everywhere except my house. How am I not a customer? I have had a family plan with Verizon for over 15 years. I even have my cable tv, internet and land line from Verizon (I know, it's separate from the Wireless division). When I first moved here (and it's not the middle of nowhere ... I'm in a Boston suburb), there was no cell service from ANY carrier, so we just stayed with what we had. Now I have to buy a network extender which I have to hook up to my (Verizon) internet service just so that I can use the cell service that I'm already paying for? I even pay Verizon for a land line. I haven't bought the network extender because I shouldn't have to. They should either 1) provide the service I pay them for. 2) give me the network extender or 3) let me out of my contract without paying the ETF. They are not willing to do any of these things. I have heard from other people that #3 has worked for them, but so far it hasn't for me. My next-door neighbors who have AT&T get an excellent signal ... in my basement.

How did I, in anyway say that you weren't? I made that comment in reference to a different member (mistakenly, since I though he said elsewhere that he was with US Cellular). I was also referring to HIS comments about the network extender.

And they ARE providing the service you pay for. Unfortunately you can't use it. I do completely agree they should give you the network extender, or give you an out of your contract (if you really want out of the contract, try complaining to the FCC).

Let's be honest Verizon's 4G network is a piece of <stinky poopoo>. I've been a loyal verizon customer for almost a decade and honestly im tired of this crap. I never get a consistent connection. I pay for LTE but am frequently kicked down to 3G or have no connection at all. My phone goes through minutes at a time with no connection. Whenever I need my data for an emergency like looking up directions I never have a data connection.

I understand your frustration, but before you gave up, try a MOTO phone. You probably would realize how night and day the reception is compared with Samsung/other brand phones.

To me the RAZR Maxx (HD or not) is the best phone on Verizon, because it got the best reception and battery life.

Agreed. The locked bootloaders suck. However when it comes to reception, build quality, and being a phone first, Motorola is king. Was going to jump from my razr to the maxx hd. Instead I just rooted my razr and see what's out there in 6 months or so.
