Root titanium backup bionic issue

I have a feeling most people already know this, but I thought I would mention it since I just now figured it out.

Titanium backup automatically stores your backups in the /mnt/sdcard directory. I'm guessing Ti is attempting to store your backups on your sd card, but since the bionic labeled their internal storage "sdcard" for some asinine reason, if you really want your backups stored on your sdcard, you need to change the backup storage location in your Ti settings to sdcard-ext.

silly motorola...

Yeah - took me a bit of cursing and head scratching to figure that one out when I first got mine and rooted it. I wasn't used to a phone with internal storage in addition to RAM.

this problem also applies to Rom Manager. The option "Install ROM from SD Card" will not work because it looks under the directory "sdcard" which as we know is internal storage, not the sd card.

Did you change the Setting to Use External Storage?

Even so, it may not work properly, as ROM Manager is probably expecting to be able to use a native CMRecovery, and we only have it via bootstrapping.

Rom Manager isn't exactly tweaked for the Bionic. Whether or not it will be will be up to the Dev. I would not recommend using the Install ROM from SD Card. The only thing most people using Rom Manager for is to fix permissions and updating the latest recovery. Other than that the app isn't of much use.

...yet. If we get an unlocked bootloader (along with decrypted eFuse, I think), though...that will be a game changer.

ANOTHER related issue I just thought of that is actually potentially more dangerous (atleast more annoying)

when you click a download link in a webpage, I'm pretty sure it downloads the file to a folder called "download" on your internal storage. if you're like me and you prefer to download your ROM zip files via your phone to avoid the hassle of a USB cable (especially since the BIONIC never seems to want to sync with my computer) then you run the risk of downloading your zip file to your internal storage, booting into recovery, wiping data/system/cache/etc and then not being able to locate your zip file...

just to avoid a large annoyance, remember to make sure your zip files are on sdcard-ext NOT sdcard.

I use apps like OnaAir - Market Link and ADB over WiFi (widget) - Market Link to avoid the use of USB cables, since I cannot connect to a USB port without charging, and I don't want to charge until the battery is either just about to die or is already dead.

This also allows me to DL the files using my wired Ethernet connection versus a wireless one - much, much faster.

"If" "If" lol...Motorola...please give us a nice Xmas present LOL...

IKR? I'm begging and hoping....

Unlock the bootloader and get rid of eFuse so that the phone can be prepped for ICS - that's my wish upon every star I see every night.

OK, yes, and world peace (as opposed to whirled peas).

How exactly do we change this setting? Thanks

How exactly do we change this setting? Thanks
I made a small backup and copied the TitaniumBackup folder to the microsd card, then deleted it from internal sdcard. I told titanium to detect and it found the folder on external, so I set it there. Afterword, I noticed that if you are on backup location screen, the 'back' soft key takes you up a level to /mnt and lets you choose sdcard-ext.

Funny thing is that it actually says that in the window when you go to select your backup location at the top:

Backup folder location

Browse to the path your backups will be stored at and restored from. BACK key jumps to parent folder.

You can move the folder using a file explorer, but you're probably better off just making a brand new backup, b/c these BIONICs are so fast that that backup of even 400+ apps (I have 200 downloaded and the rest are system) is actually faster than trying to move the entire folder. And the backups are fastest if you disable Compression altogether, which I have done since I don't store a lot of media on the SDCard.

open Ti backup. hit menu > preferences > backup folder location > back button > back button again

this should have you looking at your /mnt directory. now, simply select sdcard-ext, hit the create new folder button towards the top of the list, and name the folder TitaniumBackup. remember to select the "use the current folder" button before you're done.

viola.
