Root Titanium Backup Pro getting stuck during restore

Here's my problem. I have a Droid 1. Today I changed from Bugless Beast Eclair to the latest Froyo CyanogenMod. I backed up all my apps beforehand. Now, when I try to restore an app, it actually seems to restore the app correctly, but the progress in Titanium Backup is frozen. That means that if I do a batch restore, it'll only restore the first app before stalling out at 0% progress. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have the latest TiBU? I believe some of the past recent versions had issues, hence the quick string of updates.

Yeah, I have the latest version. Restoring app data seems to work fine, but restoring the app itself causes the program to hang.

I all honesty, I think the problem is trying to do a TiBu (Eclair rom) restore to a Froyo rom. And if I may go even further, I have used TiBu, but once you try to use your TiBu restore on a different dev's rom from which the backup was made there may be some slight problems. And if you're doing so coming from one dev's Eclair rom to another dev's Froyo rom, you're REALLY asking for problems.

At the end of the day, IMHO, TiBu _can_ be nice, but if I want to save my stuff to restore between roms, I'll depend more upon MyBackupPro. I'll backup my data (call logs, sms, mms, and bookmarks only); plus all my apps w/data (just in case). Then after doing the data/cache wipe upon the new rom flash, I'll resign into my google account and then let my phone sit on the table for QUITE a while until I get the "xxx apps restored" message in my notification bar. Then I will use MBP to restore all my backed up data and only the apps that the market didn't auto restore (using my own discretion as to .apk's or .apks w/data). Sure, you'll have to restore your system settings manually (reset them yourself), but I have found this give me a more harmonious outcome.

good luck

You're probably right, I completely skipped the Eclair > Froyo part and just saw TiBU itself. However, I can't recall issues restoring in a similar situation when I switched, but that was a while ago.

I use TiBU to restore sometimes, but I also generally used MyBackup. One thing to consider though, is that when doing your TiBU bacth restore, to make sure to deselect all stock apps/processes and only select 3rd party apps. This means do not restore apps that aren't really "apps" but more like built in functions of the OS. Like bluetooth share, google framework, network location, etc. Those will definitely be different between 2.1 and 2.2 android.

I can most definitely recall the issues when I first loaded a FroYo beta release ROM - in fact, all three of the then currently available Bet releases gave me the same error when I first tried out a FroYo ROM.

It led me to make this post http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...-struggling-mod-installations.html#post578296 as well as this post http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...ork-loading-new-rom-questions.html#post578255 and this post http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...ght-you-mdw-oc-flash-10-1-a-8.html#post872847 and this post http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...ore-only-data-why-dont-we-do.html#post1160219

Danielson2047 solved problem, in process of restoring 190+ apps/data :)

INterestingly, TiB backs up frozen apps, but when restoring doesn't give option to freeze again. More useful imo for differences in system apps/data across different roms, refreezing isn't too difficult.

I'm having the same problem, always stuck at 23% or 2%, ... if I try to restore a theme chooser theme (for cyanogenmod 7) i can expect it to freeze on it. Restoring those themes one at a time works most of the time, but when mixed in with a batch restore it will freeze when it gets to the theme.apk every time. It freezes on any app though. But its usually a random small app, the themes freeze every time in a batch. I get so tired of selecting this or that app, deselecting this or that app, installing these 5 to see if it will make it, installing those 10 to see if it will make it. It takes like 3 hours to restore my phone from absolute bare bones. I paid for Titanium BackUp Pro because i thought it would be so easy. Its not. ::trying to restore my phone right now, and frustrated if you can't tell:: i'm gonna try your solution... hope it works

Not sure if this has already been answered but for any others in the future who may come across this thread... you HAVE to make sure USB debugging is enabled. For some reason TiBU needs it enabled to restore properly.

Came across this old post. Thanks. For this, it meant my phone had to be physically plugged into the computer despite me already having debugging enabled. Maybe you're supposed to do that anyways but I thought I did it while not plugged in before.

No, i've never had to restore using TiBu by plugging the phone into a USB cable. However, as long as it works for you, keep doing it.

My suggestion is to SBF back to pure stock, root, and install a ROM and install apps and such from scratch as well - too many times restoring over and over on different ROMs again can also lead to idiosyncrasies that a simple wipe and reinstall can fix, much like with Windows - a good reinstall every year or so will make a tremendous impact on your system's stability.
