Root Titanium Backup Question

vwli

Newbie
I just downloaded Titanium Backup (non donation version). When I start it up, it gives a warning:
Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings, then in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox.

I cannot find "Unknown Sources" checkbox under "Applications" on the Captivate. Any idea?

Not the same thing.

That message goes away with the pay version, which you want to be using anyway otherwise restores are a nightmare and there are other added features. It's only a few bucks... you'll be glad you skipped a coffee/soda or two for it.

AT&T removed that Android feature, that's why you don't see it.

...I have a question, after you do the backup, do you copy the "titanium backup" folder from your phone to your PC or does that folder stay on your phone even after flashing a new or different ROM?

If you have an external sd card, change the default Tibu folder to External_sd/TitaniumBackup. Your backups are more secure there, and don't get wiped when you flash something new.

It is also a good idea to back them up to your computer, for safe-keeping.

How do you make the change so TiBackups go to External Card?

Edit: Never Mind I found it.

Thanks

Worth noting that that path is only valid for Android 2.2. If you're using Android 2.1, the correct path is: sd/TitaniumBackup

This is mentioned at the Captivate FAQ and the TB support pages/wiki.

This is a separate question (Didn't want to start a new thread): The last couple ROMS I have flashed (Darky's, Andromenda) I have not been able to restore my SMS messages using TiBu.

I really only want to restore my 3rd party apps (which I can do) and my SMS messages. However, on the last couple ROMs if I restore everything, the next time I boot up I get a bunch of FCs.

So my question is: What is the name in TiBu of the SMS data file?

EDIT: found what I was looking for, and did it without it throwing up FCs
