Root titanium backup questions

swilson

Newbie
1. If i flash a new rom, how do i get the paid version back without paying six buckaroos again?

2. I put it in Chuck Norris mode, and all of my backup assistant contacts disappeared, in backup assistant it said "backed up: 0", then i pooped my pants. did a recovery reset to the moment before i clicked Chuck Norris mode (smart) and i havent had the courage to hit Chuck Norris mode again.

3. Amazon mp3 is a bit$#! if i uninstall it via TB, will it disappear from the app drawer?

thanks

PS: i searched, didn't really find answers.

EDIT** if i delete dumb system apps, then try a factory reset in the future for whatever reason, what happens when it cant find those factory apps?

1) The Market remembers your paid apps, just download it again.

2) Sorry, never used this feature.

3) Just use the Freeze feature in TB Pro to freeze apps and they will not show up in your app drawer.

Launcher Pro can hide apps from appearing in the app drawer.

Have you gone to the developer's website and forum to find answers and/or ask questions?

If you make a backup from recovery (so you can return to stock), then install a rom, you can do anything you want to, including uninstalling that app instead of freezing it. Titanium will let you uninstall apps you can't normally uninstall.

You will want that backup to get the next OTA or have something familiar to return to if you don't like that rom or it boot loops or is unstable for you.

okay cool. i have two backups that are right after rooting. so i will just uninstalls what i want and then be good to go. i was thinking of the process like if i deleted that app, the recovery would be looking for that data and not be able to find it. but thanks, that makes sense.

ALSO: when i install a new ROM, will TB let me restore all my apps to that new ROM? and what exactly does my phone look like right after i flash? do i have my apps, data still? or do i restore in recovery? i heard about "advanced restore" in recovery mode...what is this and why would i need it? thanks

Yes, you can restore apps and their data from TB after flashing a new rom.

After you flash a new rom, assuming you installed by wiping Data and Cache first, the rom will look like a default installation with none of your homescreen settings or apps.

It is risky to restore Data from one rom into another, especially if one of them is a custom rom. That's why you use TB to restore apps only.

Advanced restore lets you choose which elements to restore (Bootloader, Kernel, System, Cache, etc.), so you can sometimes restore Data only from one similar rom into another without any adverse effects.

it really sounds like to me you should read the stickies at the top of the all things root forum before you do the things you say you want to do. I'm not saying this to sound like a dick, I'm just trying to help. But the guides in the sticky have all this info in them plus a LOT more that you should be familiar with if you are going to start ROMing your device. As xliderider said, you can brick your phone if you restore the data to an incompatible ROM, also, if you don't wipe your data/cache between ROMs you could brick your phone.
All of this is covered in the guides in the sticky...

oh, and there is really no reason to use backup assistant, it is a horrible program that really wasn't meant for this level of smartphone (imho). just set your device to backup all your contacts via gmail, this is the best way i've found, and it automatically restores your contacts when you flash any new ROM.

thanks dude. No worries! understandable :) i just got lazy actually, i have read most of the stickies but i will make sure to check them first before i just start typing away. cheers!

also, i just restored my data to apex after flashing from stock. not a good idea. i almost pissed myself. recovered back to stock...lesson learned!

After a factory reset or custom rom with a data wipe, most of your apps will be installed from market. Titanium helps to restore the data and settings associated with those apps.

I have a few older apps no longer available on market that are only installed b/c I have them on Titanium and restore the app and it's data.

that's neat. which apps? just curious

If you mean what apps aren't in market, these are puzzle games my wife likes so I need to restore app + data so she isn't starting over every time I restore a backup or wipe for a new rom. Up Cartoon Puzzle, Ice Cartoon Puzzles (Ice Age), and Madagascar Puzzle are three I know of. There are similar apps in market, but these are some she likes.

I use an app called Nav Launcher that is not in the Market as well to store favorite destinations and launch Google Navigation. I'm glad I backup my apps with Titanium Backup and Astro.

nice nice. sharing is caring.

this might be out of thread, but i re-flashed ApEx last night after almost having a heart attack the first time, and i noticed maps was uninstalled (shown in TB), but i just re-downloaded it from the market. however, navigation looks really, well, crappy in my re-downloaded maps. any suggestions? TB will not let me restore it. I know there are some "scripts" (not sure about these YET) so i will do more research on these.

Is the freeze feature only in TB Pro? I have been using the free version with a paid license for quite a while and have never seen this feature. Up till now I just rename the app example.apk.bak so that it will remove but not remove.

Yes, only in the pro version.

I retract my question. I saw that you had said that it was only available in the pro version and when out to the dev's website to see if there was anyway to get the Pro version once I had the donate version. I started looking at the wiki and found that the freeze function is available in both versions. It was actually right in front of my face (so embarrassed, I usually do better research than that), but I will always be the first to admit when it is my mistake.
