Root Titanium Backup Questions

I noticed last night when using titanium to restore are flashing for the first time that I had two issues.

A couple of apps came up with parsing errors..skitch was one of them. which caused titanium to hang.. the only thing I could do to continue was reboot. I read somewhere that this may be due to titanium using compression --which is an option to untick on the paid for version.

Additionally.. I found that I had not backed up my email.. adding 5 accounts is a PITA. email 2.3.4 is highligted in red in titanium so I haven't backed it up before.. how do others backup their email?

Thanks

I never backup email - I leave that to Google. I do only use one address with my phone though.

I tend to use MyBackup to do sms/bookmarks/dialer history etc (but not contacts/calendar/email) and then Titanium for user apps and data.

Yeah.. gmail restore is easy!

I do use the stock email app for my other email addresses.. typing them in every time I flash is a chore.

The app is highlighted in red for titanium which doesn't fill me with confidence. I'll have a look at my backup and see what that can do.

Thanks

My sms, call logs are backed up by sms backup+

I don't have much of a solution for bookmarks, but I do use mybackup pro for it. I just would rather automate it to somewhere in my cloud. May just script it to sd

I use app extractor which pulls apps and settings out of your nandroid backup. I don't know where I found out about this or why I bought it, but now that I am loading roms again with my GNex its invaluable.

Since I do a nandroid whenever I load anything through recovery, this eliminates having to back up certain things I may want to restore to a new rom. Everything is in the nandroid, I just have to go and pluck out what I want. SMS/MMS worked like a charm, just had to reboot after the restore. The only issue I had was with apps from Amazon. I had to download them again and install, but then I was able to restore my user data to the apps. Now I don't even bother with TB anymore.

I do still use SMS Backup+ b/c its nice having my conversations available online and I can forward photos easier.

There's a new app in the market called Backdrop by the dev who wrote the Appextractor app. It backs up apps and settings etc to your Dropbox account.

Looks interesting and will even create a flashable zip of itself for when restoring after a new rom.

I use this. It backs up and restores the installed apps. I then use Titanium to restore the data. Not all data though. I use it for:

-Free Stats
-Juice Plotter
-SMS Backup+
-IP Cam
-Kakaotalk

For other data, I let the cloud restore i.e. Whatsapp, ColorNotes, Gmail, Contacts etc.

For system data I re-enter it manually Accounts.

Normally it takes about 45 mins to fully restore a phone including flashing, rebooting etc.

I thought that meant it was an app installed in the System portion of ROM. I've moved some of my user apps into the System ROM using TB to save memory (before I got the EXT3 partition working) and they turned from white to red.

Something else you need to be aware of is that when a System app is updated, the update is not integrated into System ROM; it loads into internal memory. TB indicates this with "(updated)" next to the app name. You can save some memory by using TB to integrate the update into System ROM.
