TitaniumBackup-Dropbox won't play nice

TB Pro. I have TB and Dropbox on a Captivate. All works well...backups go into a TitaniumBackup folder, syncs into Dropbox--same folder name fine.

Now trying to set up the TB/Dropbox operation in CM7 on a Nook tablet16. Nothing I can do seems to work. I do not want the backups in a folder named TitaniumBackup (same name as in the Captivate) because then in Dropbox, they will mingle with the files from the Captivate.

So, I created a new folder, TitaniumBackup-tablet. I set that in TB as the "remote location" for Dropbox and for "Box" (whatever that is); I also changed the "backup folder location" to TitaniumBackup-tablet. It asked if I wanted to move the backup to the new location, and a yes answer did that, and deleted the TitaniumBackup folder. All good.

I also, in the web view of Dropbox, created a TitaniumBackup-tablet folder (to 'receive' the files when they get into the folder in the tablet and upload to Dropbox). I also see that folder name in Dropbox on the tablet. Yet nothing I do will get the files from TitaniumBackup-tablet folder in the tablet to show up in TitaniumBackup-tablet folder of Dropbox --either the folder showing in the tablet or same name on on web.

OK, I know there is something stupid I am doing. Somebody clue me in. You are authorized to call me stupid if you feel compelled! :)

LATER: For a while post showed no paragraphing--not my failure!

Just for total grins, try an underscore instead of a dash. TitaniumBackup_Tablet. Probably won't matter but some file systems won't recognize a dash within the filename. If that doesn't do it, I'd email Joel. He's always been great about getting back to me. Which is impressive considering the amount of emails he must receive.

SOLVED: found there is a sync to dropbox action in the schedules tab. I thought it would automatically detect where there was new stuff in the backup folder and sync it; nope.

Nope, that's a feature, not a bug. You have to tell TB that you want folders backed up. It can use up a huge chunk of data to back up some folders, and you may not want to use that much of your monthly quota.

Could someone please help me with TIT! backup and dropbox please?!

I have tried to sync my backups using the app (rooted phone, full paid TB app, dropbox account active with 3.5GB) and it's a no go.

TB created a folder in DBox named TitaniumBackup and sure enough started filling it up (very slowly) but at around 100MB it tells me there isn't enough memory. I re-tried as some forums have suggested, but it stops at exactly the same point i.e. doesn't add additional files.

Is there a limit for how much you can put into a folder? If so, i then tried manually, just dragging and dropping into the folder using the desktop version of DBox and nothing - same message about low memory. Then i tried to rid of the TB folder altogether and just dropped the backup files in 'dropbox folder', and again, not enough memory. I have 3,5GB for DBox and my Tbackups amount to a whopping ~2.5GB.

I could really do with some help here as i am losing my sanity a bit (2 days trying!)

I get the same problem with box, backups fail with a not enough space message, even though I got a 50GB account.

I've had no problem uploading way over 2G at a time to Dropbox from my phone or Linux box. There is no upload/download limit with Dropbox EXCEPT if you upload using a browser. Sugarsync and Box do limit uploads.

If you're not using a browser I dunno what the problem is.

Your post was a bit unclear, or maybe my mind isn't clear today...

are you getting the out of memory message while the folder on the phone is filling with backups, or when you are trying to run the sync function to transfer the content of the phone backup folder into the web server folder of your account there?

Can you tell what is giving you the error message? Is it TitaniumBackup on the phone, or Dropbox on the web?

You know what? I was just about to give you the full message the app gives me (DB on the web and TB on my phone both give me similar messages regarding memory/files too big) and the answer was right there.

Putting the phone to landscape revealed more wording mentioning that Navfree app was too big! Deleting the puppy as i never use it and will see how it goes!

EDIT: OK, so there are other apps that TB deems as 'too big' - one being the backup to fpse. No way in hell i'm deleting that. I have tried to 'assign a label' so that i can then skip it for DB sync; i can see assign label if i long press fpse on the list of apps, but when i click assign label it just gives me the option to save, but doesn't let me do anything else. If someone is kind enough, can you please give me an idiots guide/step-by-step of how to assign a label to apps and then sync in such a way that these are then skipped? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

This is total BS - now it won't go past one of my Gameloft folders for obvious reasons. Previous failures were overcome just by continuing the syc; but it genuinely fails now with bastard Gameloft files.

Hopefully future updates to TB includes a list of all the back ups and simple check and uncheck for what you want and don't want synced. At the moment it's pretty crap when it comes to Dropbox. Shame.

I think the problem is that you have enabled backing up external data, which is the data that some apps and games ask you to download when you first start them, like navfree, the maps are kind of heavy, and some Gameloft games require almost a gigabyte of data.

Check your TB settings for the external data option, you can select there if you only want to back up external app data smaller than X mb.

Thanks very much. Really wasn't aware of that option. Seems to be working a treat now (and that Gameloft file was MASSIVE!).

[EDIT: My answer was in Post #3 above... Nothing to see here unless my config clarifies anything for anybody]

I have also been fumbling with the dropbox function...

Droid 4 (Android version 2.3.6, Build 6.5.1_167-1_M1-219)
Dropbox (version 2.1.7)
Titanium Backup Pro + Root (version 5.4.2)
I'm rooted.

I have fooled around a bit with both apps. Like moving the TitaniumBackup folder to /mnt/sdcard-ext/ and back again. I didn't find anywhere to specify the Dropbox folder location (I think I would prefer to move it to my /mnt/sdcard-ext/... instead of the internal sdcard).

I installed dropbox some time ago and it appears that it's folder is located at
/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/

So right now I have folders located as follows:

Dropbox folder on Droid 4: /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/
Dropbox folder on my PC:
D:\Documents and Settings\Dave\My Documents\Dropbox\
TitaniumBackup folder on Droid 4:
/mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup/

Dropbox appears to work.
- Add folder "TitaniumBackup" on PC in the ...\Dropbox\ folder.
- Run Dropbox on the Driod 4 and the TitaniumBackup folder appears.
- Create test.txt file in the TitaniumBackup folder on the PC and it appears on the Driod 4.
- Delete test.txt file on the Driod 4 and it disappears on the PC.

Titanium Backup appears to work on the Droid 4.
- Backup folder location: /mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup
- menu->Batch->[Run]Backup all user apps + system data->Run
- /mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup/ folder gets populated with backup files.

I then enabled Dropbox in TitaniumBackup and repeated the batch backup
I can see a second version in the TitaniumBackup history but nothing appears in Dropbox.

I tried changing the Preferences->Dropbox settings->Remote location.
Default is "TitaniumBackup" and I changed it to "/mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup"
Ran a Batch backup again with no effect in Dropbox.

Am I missing something fundamental?

Crap... I'm an idiot... my answer is in Post #3 above.

Note: The effect of specifying
Preferences->Dropbox settings->Remote location
is to give the path relative to your Dropbox folder.

Above I changed "TitaniumBackup" to "/mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup"

The result on the PC is
D:\Documents and Settings\Dave\My Documents\Dropbox\mnt\sdcard-ext\TitaniumBackup\
