Root Titaniumbackup Issues

poweroffice

Lurker
Okay, so I rooted my Evo, and the first thing I wanted to do was to remove those horrible Sprint apps. Next thing I do is install Titaniumbackup; but lo and behold it doesn't want to work.

So, first TB cannot acquire root privileges, which leads me to click the "Problems?" button; which in turn makes me do the BusyBox auto-upgrade. The upgrade seems to make it to 100%, but it turns out that the upgrade fails too, as shown in the 5th picture. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

In the 5th picture it says visit their website to trouble shoot.
Did you by chance? Also you can try to uninstall and then reinstall to see if that helps.

Yeah, I went to their site, I couldn't find anything that helped. Also just reinstalled it, same problem. I'm beginning to question whether the root worked; some root-required apps function like "screenshot" but others like Titaniumbackup and Rom manager don't.

Do you have the super user app? And also do you have s-off? If you don't know how to check s-off, power the phone off. Then reboot holding the volume down button and power... that will get you into hboot. Then at the very top it'll say either s-on or s-off. Let me know.

FYI, a lot of the screenshot apps no longer require root access so follow above instructions to see if you are actually rooted.

It's S-on, and no, I don't have the super user app. I'm still new to this stuff. All I did was use Unrevoked3 for rooting it. And @aburgthing, I assumed the root was required because it said "root needed".

Well if you don't have the su app I want to assume you are not rooted. Download terminal emulator for the markert. Type "su" without quotes. Press enter. If it returns with # you are rooted. I'd it returns with permission denied $ you are not rooted. So if you get $ re run unrevoked. If you are rooted then download unrevoked forever and flash it through recovery.

Yeah, it says permission denied. So how would I go about checking if I'm rooted for real, and how do I flash unrevoked forever through recovery?

Did you not read my entire post? $ you are not rooted. That is how to check "for real". You need to run unrevoked again. I am assuming you aren't on software version 3.30 with hboot 2.02. You might want to check your hboot version. Unrevoked willpower not work with hboot 2.02. Load back into hboot where you check for s off. At the top it will say hboot version

Yes, you flash unrevoked forever in recovery. Do you have clockwork? Did it even get that far? It seems strange that you don't even have partial root. You didn't get any errors in unrevoked?

EDIT: yeah good point from wrap. What hboot version do you have? You probably have 2.02. If that's the case unrevoked won't work for you yet.

Yeah, I'm on Hboot 2.02 and v 3.30. I assumed it worked with this version, because the site says: "At this time, unrevoked3 works on all versions of the supported phones, thanks to the exploit discovered by Sebastian Krahmer." and unrevoked forever works on baseband version 2.15.00.09.01 which is on my evo.
So, what are my options for rooting then, and is it safe to root after the deal with unrevoked?
and @akazabam, I didn't have any errors with unrevoked, it went all the way to "this is a triumph" and no I don't have clockwork. I just got my first android phone and yesterday was my first attempt at rooting.

Right, those are the symptoms of trying to root with unrevoked on hboot 2.02. It says it works, but doesn't do anything. Right now, this is your only option:

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 S-OFF - Got the Game Upset Edition - Updated 12.16.10 - xda-developers

I do not recommend this unless you actually understand what you're doing. Keep in mind that the unrevoked team is currently working on an update that will root with hboot 2.02. You probably don't have long to wait.

All the info you need is here:

Oh okay, that explains it. Do you know if the unrevoked I attempted on my evo will have any effect on it? And yeah I think I'll just wait for an update. Thanks a lot guys, this stuff is pretty confusing at first.

Probably not, but I've heard it could cause issues. What information do you see under menu->settings->about->software information? If you're phone is working fine, you should fine until unrevoked is updated.

You should be fine. Just wait a little bit until unrevoked is updated.
