Help TMobile G3 on Metro PCS issues

Brandon K

Newbie
Hello everyone,

I have a TMobile G3, it is paid off, sim unlocked ect. I purchased a metro PCS sim, the phone sees the sim and is ok with it.
I have service bars but no data, cant make calls or do anything.
Is this just APN settings or is the phone not usable on Metro service?

If there is a link here for this then i appreciate a pointer. I was unable to find the information.
Thanks for any help

I appreciate your reply Kolio.
I understand what you said and was mostly wanting to make sure that I didn't need to take the phone to a local store for some reason. I had a sim in the phone once before and it picked up all the data signals on its own without touching the APN at all. Even made a HD voice call to the Metro PCS activation line but it wouldn't activate. The system said there is an issue with the phone. If there are no querks with the phone itself then I will add the correct APN settings.
There is an APN already in the settings. I am unable to remove or modify it. Is that going to be an issue or if I add one will it override it?

Thanks!

Thanks for the video Kolio.
Both Sims I have default to the settings in the video.
Here's the deal. The SIM that has service actiavted is from a LG 450 doner phone.
That SIM finds signal but no service works on my G3. No phone calls data mms or anything.
Works fine in the doner phone.
So I'm lost lol. Do I have to use an LTE donor phone?

You need a smartphone plan.
That SIM is from a non-Smartphone.
You probably can make calls, but,I'm betting the SIM is no good for a 4GLTE-enabled device.

I'm on the $60 unlimited plan.
Would you know if they would program a sim to NOT activate certain services?
At the same time if I can have my plan moved to the SIM that actually works properly, then I would ask for that to be done.
Or can I call them and have them put me on a smartphone plan?

Sounds like you have the right kind of plan, but need to get a new SIM Card for your phone.
A visit to a MetroPCS Store is definitely in order.

Another piece of information,
I went and got a sim yesterday, it fits my G3 perfect. asked for my service to be moved to that sim. The dude says its ready. I go outside and put it in and get signal but no services of any kind. Just like the doner sim card.
I thought when he activated the new sim, it was programmed for the donor and still didn't work.
Any thoughts?

Something isn't right, try calling MetroPCS from another phone to see what's going on:

MetroPCS Sim Card Starter Guide

Welcome to our Nationwide Network.
Follow the steps below to install your new SIM card and activate your phone.

1. Provide Basic Information
Your name, address and an eight-digit number (PIN) that you will use to access your account.

2. Find Your Serial Numbers
Your SIM card serial # is located on the plastic card that holds your SIM. Your phone serial # or IMEI # may be located underneath the battery or on the original box and packaging that your device came in.

3. Install Your SIM
Insert the nano SIM card into your phone, using the included adapter (if required). Once the SIMis installed, insert your phone’s battery and charge your phone.

4. Choose Your Desired Plan
Choose your unlimited data, talk and text plan and features.

5. Choose Your Method Of Payment
To start your service, purchase a MetroPCS payment card in addition to your SIM, provide a credit or debit card at the time of activation, or pay in-store.

6. Give Us A Call
Dial 1.888.8metro8 from any phone other than the one you are trying to activate. A MetroPCS activation representative will be available to assist you in activating your service and making your first month’s payment.

I will do that after work today. I had not done it yet because I thought they would just tell me the phone is not supported.
Hopefully they can get it working on my G3. Thanks for all the advice.

OK, so I am a douche lol. I called them from a landline phone and talked to technical support. I explained to the chick what was going on.
LONG story short, she added my phones IMEI to her system, took the SIM # of the card from earlier that I said actually worked properly and it was working after I powered it up. She didn't care where the phone came from, only that it was not blacklisted or sim locked.
Unlimited everything on a sweet a** phone for $60 a month. That's the cats meow lol
