To Everyone Who IS/WAS Having GPS Problems

Oddly enough, the numerous issues I've had with my GPS seem to have disappeared within the last week or so. I'm getting quick, accurate locks. Haven't done extensive testing, but the GPS issues that once had me so gutted are now almost nonexistent. I still don't know how I'd feel about using it to travel an unfamiliar route, but at least I'm getting SOME functionality from it.

I was about to say the same thing, but this afternoon I was in Columbia, SC and it never got a GPS lock. It got within 60 meters, but the dish icon in the notification bar never stopped blinking.

It worked great this morning (got a lock within 10 seconds), and this afternoon when i was back in Spartanburg (smaller town).

This was with google maps and google nav.
 
i just called samsung and all they could tell me was that samsung is aware of the issue and will issue out a fix as soon as possible.

Mine been working great also. Tonight I tried it in my room and I got a lock under a minute and no blue circle around my location (stock settings, use wireless off).
 
My initial short (3 mile) drive test showed 15 second lock, and spot on GPS tracking.

Tomorrow i'll put a couple hundred miles on. I'll see how it goes then

BTW...this is after doing the firmware update today.
 
This is strange, everyone use the LbsTestMode to delete GPS data, switch to Hot Start and try to get a GPS lock. I did this while walking into a grocery store; the dang thing obtained a lock INSIDE The Store.
 
My GPS has always worked. I wait a few weeks to get my captivate. I wonder if I have a different firmware than the early adopters. Firmware says 2.1 update 1. Is this what everyone has?

I think AT&T has a 30 day return policy. I returned mine at 28 days, and am anxiously awaiting a fix before I repurchase.
 
I'm curious if my GPS experience is similar to others.

If I do not enable "Use wireless networks" and only check "Use GPS satelites" then I never get a lock, ever. When I enable wireless networks, I will almost always lock and in a reasonble amount of time. Usually my position is very accurate, but it could be off by 1/4 to 1/2 mile and once it locks it doesn't update frequently. I would expect a continuous update, like on the iPhone, but instead my position may update once every few minutes and it's not reliable, ie. sometimes it will never update.

I tried the "fix" posted on various websites and the performance is still the same.
 
I had a very similar experience to yours, but I've now had these settings for the last week and continue to have good results with them. Again not talking about initial lock, but serious night and day difference when actually driving around using Navigation or My Tracks.

Yeah, I see that my post that "solved" my issues was removed as well. Backups anyone??
Either way, I simply made slight changes to the GPS setting per a recent post, and I have since not had a single issue with GPS. I have even rebooted it and it locks GPS within 10 seconds at all times.

Yes, after trying every single adjustment possible... This is one of the best combinations for me (around Baltimore, MD area at least). It's not perfect, but using the accuracy setting above 100 will generate faster locks to satellites, and less dropping & re-locking as you move.

Overall, a setting similar to this one makes the GPS usable for pretty much everything except fitness tracking programs and golf rangefinders (though I haven't had a chance to hit up the links lately).
 
I'm thinking they meant it in the context of "on the Epic 4G" there is no GPS bug. But hey, if you can get a response from them that would be cool.

In the same review, prior to speaking to samsung, he stated "seriously, it cannot find you most of the time "

Now he turns on use wireless network and he thinks the gps bug is gone.

People should remember that even with "use wireless networks" turned off on other phones, these other non samsung galaxy s phones show 100 percent functional gps. if the epic 4g needs "use wireless networks" turned on for a location lock, then obviously it has the same problem as every other galaxy s phone. Again, I'll state from my own experience, on any other phone, gps works flawlessly with "use wireless networks" turned OFF.

Samsung said in their tweet the update will be on their website with downloading instructions. This fix has nothing to do with ATT.
