Help to many to separate out but I'll list them

I don't know how I found the right screen again but ya, there is this big advertisement from Samsung HuB on my screen. with a big red bow that says, *tap to tart.. I don't want that on one of my pages and that is the main reason I wanted another launcher to get rid of that. !!!

Can we do it?

The other screen comes up Walking mate and Story album.. ?? what for with someones feet hanging out of a car with sneakers on.

Press and hold on each item until the phone's buzzes and the item lifts off the screen. Drag each unwanted item up to the top of the screen where a garbage can awaits.

I've never used Nova as a launcher. I've been experimenting with Everything (Beta) as my launcher and I've not experienced any of the things you've encountered yet.

I came from an Apple phone years ago and switching from the iphone to the android platform has been a very wise choice for me. The Samsung S4 is the third Android I've had.

akaiveleaf that's good to hear. so I know there will be some better days ahead of me once i get these few things straightened out. Never had an android. Or last one was a black berry years ago

Welcome to Android and the Android Forums. Nice to see that your questions are being answered. As to the boxes, widgets, you are referring to, all can be removed by long pressing, press and hold, until the trash can pops up, then drag that item to the trash can. It will turn red, then release your finger off the screen.

Touchwiz has two launchers. Easy home which is for someone new to android and makes it easy to get familiar with the phone and android experience. Touchwiz home which is the regular launcher and much hardier for a beginner.

There is an app called "Help" try using it and let us know how it worked for you.

As to the ring tones, use the contacts app and set up your custom tones for messaging and ringtone.

Can we on the regular launcher that comes with it. Get different themes for the instant messenger or chat?
:) I want to be an android whizz kid too.

To find the Help app, from your home screen, press the "Apps" button, which will open the app drawer. Scroll thru the apps until you get to the apps that start with H. (I believe there should be in alphabetical order)

Not sure about the themes selection since I use ADW Launcher. I'm sure someone else will chime in with a solution though.

The Help app is pre-installed and can be found in your App Drawer.

The Message app has different chat bubbles and backgrounds, and you can select a custom background image from your gallery. To find these different options, open the Message app and while on the main list, click Menu -> Settings -> Scroll down to display. You can choose the bubble look and the chat background.

As for customizing anything else, not really. You would have to install a separate app that takes over for the stock one. Just like Nova took over for TouchWiz, there are other apps that can take over for chat, email, and other things.

Well what do you know??i see HELP. Cool. Thank you. I got some good info today. I'm going to keep looking for you know. tho is great.

How do I get the launcher back to the Touchwiz Launcher. ?

None of the problems you are having are remotely related to nova. And, despite what you are being tools above Nova and Apex are both vastly superior to Touchwhiz.

That said, if you find nova on manage apps, and hit clear defaults, it will go back to touchwiz.

I am an AT&T user also using Nova Prime on an unrooted GS4 with no issues. I think the OPs issues are simply related to the iOS->Android move. Patience is required when you move to a new architecture. You have to give yourself time to learn the new ecosystem. ;)

I believe your patience will be rewarded.

I also learned via this thread how to dump those Picassa images which showed up unannounced. :D

okay. I'm back. Since I paid for the Nova Prime. What does it do that the launcher that comes from the phone doesn't do?

What am I missing now that i"m back to home base.
If I used that, is it going to pic up picassa pictures again? i'm not going to launch it as the issues I was having are now gone.

and if they are gone now, that tells me, something was n't set correctly in it.

To those above, we all know the launchers are awesome and I'm not saying they aren't, but a little time with Google or browsing Androidforums/AndroidCentral/XDA SGS4 forums will show that for some odd reason, 3rd party launchers cause hiccups in the Contacts app with occasional issues in Messaging. If you did the same thing with individual ringtones for contacts and didn't experience intermittent ringtones issues, please share your success stories across the boards (seriously, not sarcastically). I myself am using GoLauncher and have encountered others using it and NextLauncher. In our case, the Contacts app forgets it's "Contacts to Display" option and displays All contacts no matter what. I don't use personalized ringtones/messaging alerts to say if that is messed with as well.

To summber, switching back to Nova will not reintroduce your gallery issue. If anything, it may interfere with your personal preferences as far as the Contacts app, but nothing else. There are many, many things launchers can offer from system appearance to themes, custom widgets, and more. That itself would take a whole other thread to go over. Browse Tesla Coil's homepage on Nova to see a taste of what you can do.
