so today I notice my tab 2 10.1 now has screen rotation in the home screen and that it has apparently been "updated" so I go to the about device section to see android version, and it says it is still on 4.1.1. something has definitely been updated. anybody know what's up?

I think an update is coming, I tried kies today and it said to update my kies to the latest version then do the software update, however I am on the lastes kies, so not sure whats going on, will check again tomorrow

well I got the update today, I think. like I said the home screen now rotates and I know that was one of the things new in 4.1.2, but for some reason the tablet still says it is running 4.1.1.

another thing, does anyone know if when you do a firmware update you lose all you settings home screen organization etc.?

Here is an update, I ended up unistalling Kies today and downloading from the samsung website, once I re-installed Kies, I connected my Tab2 and it said there was a software update, it took about an hour to complete the update, now I am on 4.2.2, there are so many changes at this point to even mention.

After the update I still had all my apps, but yes my screen layouts changed, not a big deal to put back to the way I had it though....

Thanks. Installed Kies (god what bloatware) and was able to download and install 4.2.2 in about 20 minutes. Hate having to rebuild all my home page folders but not that big of a deal. Now to uninstall Kies stuff.

but does it say 4.2.2 as android version in the about device section. I got the update but mine still says 4.1.1, also do you have lock screen widgets now? if so how do you put them there?

Yes, there are lock screen widgets....if I go into "about device" it now says 4.2.2, did you try connecting it to your computer and running kies?

Well the good news, 4.2.2 is installed and working. Like the new layout and the home and go back buttons.

The bad news, it didn't fix the problem I have had since 4.1.1 of not being able to read from or write to USB thumb drives. Doesn't see or recognize them. Will do SD and MicroSD camera cards just fine but not thumb drives, no matter what size. Have several USB to 30 pin adapters and thumb drives will not work with any of them.

Was really hoping the update from 4.1.1 would fix that issue for me.

Forgot to add, I play one game (pinball) that is somewhat graphic intensive and when the game goes on longer and longer it did slow down somewhat and the ball movement got a little choppy. Worked fine in 4.1.1 but saw the above a bit in 4.2.2. Maybe the new upgrade uses a bit more processor and memory.

Not yet but i will. It is almost as if i got 1/2 an update as funny as that sounds.

ok i downloaded update with keys. i'm on 4.2.2 now. one thing I notice dhowever and I am wondering if anybody else who has got the update noticed, the notification shade is hard to pull down. it just doesn't seem to want to work that easily/smoothly

sounds like they give us a big jump skipping 4.1.2. I will have to update mine, I dont really care for Kies so I will try to do it as just a regular OTA update.

Wouldn't do it as an OTA for me (tried for 2 days). I just put KIES on long enough to do the update and then uninstalled it.

I think it is easier to get it ota now as the initial rush is over and the servers arent overloaded anymore.

As of today I still cannot get it OTA. Continues to give me the same message about access is provided to uses who request it first, or something like that...

Edit: Tried with Kies 3 times last night and the update files downloaded, I was asked for admin credentials, and then it just sat and did nothing for up to 25 minutes each time. The Kies window was slightly grayed out and would not respond to any input, but never generated a Windows "Not Responding" UI. So I am going to try one last time tonight running Kies as admin from the start and see if that does anything.

Final Edit: I ran Kies as Admin (right click, run as admin) and it worked perfectly.
