Toggle notification sound on / off

Since (I think) 4.2, Google has coupled the ringer and notification volumes together. So, I can't have my ringer turned on and my notification sounds turned off. One way around this is to go into settings and set the notification ringtone to silent. That works, but not very quick to do.

Does anyone know of a widget or home screen shortcut that will toggle the notification sound between silent and a sound I choose?

Depends on your device. When I toggle the volume buttons, a bar appears in the screen showing the media or ringer volume. There is a settings icon beside the bar which when tapped shows all volume bars including separate volume bars for notifications and ringer which can be dragged.

I think thats either a TW or a <4.2 thing Chanchan mate. I dont have it now on AOKP 4.2.2 and i kinda miss it

The only phone ive had JB on is the s3 and while on samsung based 4.1.2 ROMs, it had what Chanchan describes but now on a non-samsung 4.2.2 rom, it doesnt so id like to find a app/widget that does this.
Just had a quick look at Volume Control+ app but havent tried it

Do you have an option to un-link the two volumes? The version of JB I'm on, if you go to Settings > Sound > Volumes. There is a check box to link the two. If it is unchecked, another slider appears for notifications.

Not in the stock ROM. I believe custom ROMs have that option.

Getting back to my original question, does anyone know if a program like Tasker or Llama will allow me to create a widget or shortcut on my home screen to toggle the notification sound between silent and another sound I choose?

I use Volume Widget by Leep Studios: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leepstudios.VolumeWidget

This widget allows you to adjust the volume settings with a single tap on your home screen. You configure up to 3 different volume profiles. For instance, I have one with the notification sounds turned off, but the ringer and alarm is still on. Another with all sounds on. By tapping on the widget, I can choose any of these sound profiles to use. Tap on it again (on another spot) and you select a different sound profile. I think this is the widget that you want.

I did find an app that does what I want, Llama. I can set a profile to turn the notification sounds to silent at specified times or manually select a profile.
