Too Many Spammers

I see way more spam here than other forums I participate in.

Spam is generally removed fairly quickly after alerting, but still, the spammers must think it's an easy target here and that appears to be true.

I don't recall what's required to sign up, but maybe the bar can be raised a bit?

I can't imagine that it couldn't be raised just enough to thwart the majority of the spammers and not turn off new users.

EDIT: I just signed up for a new account and wow, you just sign up and start posting. No authentication email, no captcha, just a silly question.

Now, I see why there's more spam here than elsewhere.

Powers that be not interested in making it a little tougher?

We have severe registration email delivery problems so half our registration emails never make it to the end user.

Captcha is intermittently broke too.

These have been large, ongoing issues that we tried and tried and tried to fix, for the better part of year, before deciding we'd just open it up and do our best with the spammers.

It went well for a while, but now spammers have picked up, just in general, so it's not as.. not a big deal.. as it was.
