Took pic but says it's too large to send in text msg????

I took some pics w/ my Eris but when I try to send them by hitting the "share" button it says the image is too large to send. I was trying to send the pic in a "text" msg....I think??? I have NO idea what SMS means or MMS means. All I know is I hit share & then message.
Also, is there a way to shrink images or format a pic to send?
Remember.....kid gloves w/ me.

the default, handcent, and chomp messaging apps all format and resize for you ... a box will pop up and you say ok and it does it automatically ... if you are using a diff. app then try one of those. if you are using one of those then there must be some kind of glitch.

Yeah I'm using the default messaging app and whenever it says file too large it automatically starts compressing it to fit

that's normal. the network only allows MMS up to a certain size to be sent.
