i had the HTC inspire for a few days and i disabled this by going to language & keys settings > multi touch keyboard uncheck the vibrate and keypress and still the mother****ing phone is still vibrating...
Haptic feedback can be turned off for everything other than the capacitive buttons (Menu/Home/Back/Search at the bottom of your phone). Other phones by other manufacturers work the same way.
There is a work-around of sorts posted at XDA, if you're interested, but you must be rooted to attempt it.
ETA that if you decide to use that workaround, all vibrations in the phone will be killed, including when you put it on vibrate and calls come in. It won't vibrate then, either.
