Root Top 5 Desire Custom ROMs

Usta

Let's make a list of top 5 Desire ROMs!

What do you think are the best ROMs based on the stability, speed, features or design?
The suggestion here could help people to decide which custom ROM to take. :)

So, here is my list, in no particular order:
* GingerVillain
* ReDux
* iNsertCoin
* MIUI-AU
* Starburst

I've only tried three so far and since CyanogenMod is a big part of GingerVillain I can't make a top five yet XD

Gingervillain
Defrost

If I list my top five, it would appear that I like the others which wouldn't be a fair suggestion. So these are my top 2.

It is OK to suggest 1 or 2 ROMs. When we put all that together in one topic, we have a good idea about what people like to use. :)

Could any of you add some descriptions regarding what you like about the certain rom, as compared to others? Thx in advance

I tried Leedroid, which is almost like Stock, thus stable but a tad bit on the boring side.
InsertCoin 1.9.1 is kinda laggy at times, especially when trying to add a widget, or choose an app from the full list. Might be due to other reasons though.
Haven't had time to flash anything else yet.

Cheers

I've only tried 3, leedroid which was ok but I wanted to get away from sense so I then tried cyanogen 6.1.1 which for me was very laggy, and now I run Gingervillian which I love, its very quick and stable and gets updated weekly at the minute.

Where can I find these roms? I want to look at them to find my pick of the litter and can't find them...

dGB - Stripped to the bare bones, a minimilists wet dream and the most stable and battery friendly Rom I have used. My personal favourite.
MildWild (Oxygen) - Quite a flashy and colourful but a well polished rom. Good battery and stable too.
Redux v 1.2 - Stable, and slick. But you may as well do the extra work and get dGB :D

Good answers Jon.

"Features" is the tricky one, because one person's feature is someone else's bloat. For example, ROMs which are "stock plus extra apps" are my worst nightmare: I want the ROM to be simple and functional, to contain stuff that has to be in the ROM and nothing more. User apps I can do myself, and just as I don't want the network's idea of what I should have extra, I don't want a particular dev's idea either (though that's likely to be a better set of ideas than networks usually have :)). But others seem to think that "put everything imaginable into the ROM" is just what they want. Individuals have different preferences. So it's kinda hard to answer that one.

I love dGB because it does just what I said above. Even before SUroot released it this is what I was doing - taking ROMs, removing stuff that I didn't think needed to be system apps (or to be there at all), then flashing my smaller versions and using a smaller system partition. With the Desire's limited storage I think that's a sensible approach. So my "best ROM for features" would be one which includes useful features that can't be provided by user apps but nothing that can be. But many will disagree with this definition.

BTW I have a soft spot for Redux 2, even though this never got beyond beta stage. It worked well, was still a compact, stripped-down ROM, but the different notification/control style did appeal to me. Wish it had gone further, but that's always the risk with one-person projects.

This is quite an old thread now, but my rom choices have changed now.
1, this would absolutely have to be DGB! an amazing rom which does everything I want to.
2, this would be miui xj, i love the customisation of it and the look and style of it.
3, mildwild v-4.2, its very clean and quick, and provides good battery life.
4, probably redux 1.2, this hasn't been modded in a long while now, but as Jon said its like a pre dgb,

I'm currently having a flash frenzy and just using the mildwild v-4.2 at the minute,

I have so far only flashed two ROMS:

1. MildWild (CM) - My first custom ROM and I liked it alot
2. MIUI XJ - Fancied something different in look and feel so using this currently, I like it and it is fast and stable so that's good.

Everyone raves about dGB for size, stability and battery etc and the battery side does appeal to me but two things hold me back - Having to change my system partition sizes and the fact it doesn't have bells and whistles, I guess I am attracted to flashy things (pun intended).

I want to try an ICS ROM but am holding back 1) until they become more developed and stable and 2) because once I go to ICS I don't think I'll drop back to 2.3.7 :P

You think? There are quite a few on XDA already and at least two I'd be willing to try.

For a stable ICS rom with all its bells and whistles working, I don't think anything will tick all the boxes for the Desire I'm afraid. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I don't see it happening.

The desire is a 2 year old device at the end of the day, and even though there are ics roms out there for the phone it was never really intended to work with it, and as much as we try to convince ourselves that it's still fresh and modern in terms of ability, the truth is as soon as you touch a s3 or one x you will know you've been Kidding yourself for ages. I would rather run a fast gb rom than try and pretend its ics.
Don't get me wrong the developers of these's roms work very hard to make them work as well as they do, its just they will never match hardware intended for it.
Just my 2p's worth.

I've only tried 3 ROMs. All were good but my order of preference is:

  1. Oxygen 2.3.2
  2. dGB
  3. Teppics Rooted Gingerbread Stock
dGB has to be the most future proof. The tiny size providing a blank canvas for you to colour in yourself.

Oxygen is similar but with a couple of features I would miss (LED features, prettier status bar widget, scrollable widget support in launcher) but it costs me an extra 40mb of system.

Teppics ROM is IMHO the best starting place for a noob to rooting. It's familiar but with apps2sd+.

Couple of points to make here:

Status bar widgets are theme-able.
Stock launcher is only a fall back if you have to wipe. Its there for no other reason. Idea is you download Go Launcher or similar. Same with the Keyboard :)

You're absolutely correct as always. However I have a ROM that is working well for me, I like the look & feel of, & I still have 185mb of free space in user data (no SD partition). Too lazy to change! dGB is the ultimate ROM though.
