Excuse the probably simple question.

How do you side load an app? Do I put it on a different phone then transfer form there?
First, be sure to look under your Applications settings, and check "Unknown sources" (meaning non-market apps).

You then download or copy the appname.apk file to your phone or SD card. As to getting it on your phone, you can use a variety of methods, including emailing it to yourself, using a link in your mobile browser, or even just copying from your computer.

Once the file is on your device, you can then make your way to the directory it's located, and install it using most any file manager (I use ES file explorer, but another popular one is Astro. I'm sure there are others.).

For more information, take a look at the link, below. Parts 1-3 explain the entire process in more detail, but you really only need to follow part 4, for the actual install, described above.

This one thing since switching to the Bionic I find out I have to do WAY more than I should....a lot of my apps don't show up in market anymore?!

Mine all show in market...

In fact, if I go to the Market URL from my desktop, I not only see my apps, but I see which are installed on the BIONIC and which are installed on my DROID....

And from the desktop you can send your phone apps to install, in the similar way as you could with AppBrain....

Mine too. I found going from the Droid X to the Bionic was trivial to transfer Apps. I used it as an opportunity to get rid of some that were just hanging around.

I currently have one App on the Bionic that did not come from the Marktet (FM Radio).

Shen you view an App on the PC it verifies that it is compatable with each of your defined devices.

I recommend to everyone that they get all their Apps from the Market for this reason. If one isn't there ... (like FM Radio) ... you'lll need to go elsewhere and manage it yourself.

I guess I wasn't exactly clear on what I meant. My fault.

I know how to side load apps. (put them on SDcard then load from there)

My issue is:

How do I get the apk file from the market if it says it's unavailable for my phone? When I go to your URL then say send to phone it has my Bionic grayed out and says it's not compatible or something to that affect. I don't see an option to just download the apk to my PC. Am I missing that option somewhere?

Thanks for all these great app suggestions. I've found many useful ones through this thread.

One thing I'm curious about though, is if there are any apps that really make full use of the Bionic's power? Something that you really need the dual core, 1ghz processor, and 1gb ram for it to work right?

Thanks,
Scott

I enjoy using the "Stun Gun App" from the Market...it's great, stun friends and family for fun or intruders / muggers. JK LOL

If it is showing as not compatible with your device, you'd have to contact the author to get the app legally, would be my feeling. The forum does not allow any discussion of illegally obtaining apps.

This is not about obtaining apps illegally. This app didn't even interfere with the EULA. I bought the same app a few weeks ago with no problem from the Market, and now I get the same message. I think the market itself has screwed with a lot of our accounts. I am going to contact the devs, but I kinda feel the problem is on Google's end.

I just got & love this one:

"Orientation Lock" $1.49
It resides in the pull down bar. Gives me the ability to lock the screen in any direction. I watch a lot of TV & Movies on my Bionic and I can flip it around so that the power & hdmi inputs are on the top when my phone is on it's side...I don't use a dock. So I can charge while watching TV on phone, while on it's kickstand.
Rooting NOT required.

I really wanted something like this, but being a lazy bum I didn't want to spend any cash. So I looked around and found this:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.malcolm.rotationtoggler&feature=search_result

It is a free version that allows auto toggling from the notification bar and shows you the current status. It is incredibly simple and free too.

You can also change the setting via the long touch search bar. I prefer this rather than the notification tab, and you can set it so it only shows up if it is disabled which is my preference. This way I don't have a notification all the time, just if I disable the rotate...

What is the App?

Huh?

No disrespect meant. But who said anything about obtaining an app illegally.

I thought there was another way in the market to download the app. The app in question is free.
