Torrenting?

Is torrenting bad for the battery? I used to have a Lucid and i did a ton of torrenting. My battery was shot. I have a G2 now and i'm afraid to torrent. I download a lot of tv shows.

If you are constantly torrenting you are probably recharging more often which will probably wear the battery out more quickly. My advice would be torrent only when connected to AC.

In and of itself I don't think torrenting is any better or worse for the battery than anything else.

I don't think that torrenting is necessarily bad for a battery, any more than any other data intensive application like streaming videos. The battery will almost certainly drain quicker than if the device were just on standby and thus will require more frequent charging. Batteries only have a finite number of charge/discharge cycles before they lose capacity.

There is no set number but according Wikipedia about 500 cycles till degrading to 80% capacity.

Like I said set yourself up so you can run your phone off of AC or resign yourself to having to replace the battery in a year or two (presuming you can with your phone).

500? I'm already probably around 50 and I've only had it a month. Is it ok to use battery intensive apps like Netflix while AC charging? I don't think G2 battery can be replaced.

The G2 uses a li-polymer battery so I think it has more than 500 recharge cycles (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

Remember that the phone never runs off the mains: the phone always runs off the battery, and the charger charges the battery. Both processes generate heat.

I'm not a battery expert, but if the phone is running hard enough to get hot I'd not recommended charging it at the same time, because excessive heat is bad for batteries.
