Toshiba thrive use usb keyboard?

hi, im looking to buy the Toshiba Thrive 10" tablet, for not only music and video playback, gaming and general handiness, but also to jot down some school essays.

i dont think using a touchscreen qwerty is going to be the most entertaining activity especially when dealing with somewhat two pages of writing. that brings me to my question: Can i use a usb keyboard(through the tablets full scaled port) to write large amounts, or do i need a bluetooth keyboard?

Unfortunately the THRiVE, (or other android Tablet for that matter), does not contain drivers for a PnP USB keyboard. So it's BT or screen QWERTY. Check Targus BT it is not very "portable" but if you are going to just use it when you type long papers then you probably won't mind it. It is about as wide as an ipad turned to landscape mode. I can't comment on a "corded" USB keyboard, however when I first got my Thrive I plugged in my computers unifying adapter from my Logitech K270 Keyboard/Anywhere MX Mouse. It had no issues while running Honeycomb. After seeing this thread I wanted to make sure it still worked on ICS before replying here, as you can see in the attached screenshot I still had no issues.

That being said, I love my Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+ and would highly reccomend trying it or one of the cheaper options posted above, bluetooth keyboards are typically a lot more portable than a full sized USB keyboard.

I plugged a standard usb (corded) keyboard into my thrive and it worked fine. I ended up buying a compact BT Logitech keyboard for convenience, but the corded desktop one worked fine. Of course, the function and specialty keys did nothing, but overall it worked as expected. I also have a Targus (I think) keypad that works with the tablet also. I did have issues getting the onscreen keyboard working with the keypad plugged in, but it worked.
