Hello all, and my apologies for not posting in the Introductions section but I figure ill be posting enough noob questions you common users will see me around here enough to know me. I recently got an LG Motion 4G, first and only smartphone, very very glad i got an Android I was unaware of the customizable features and rooting capabilities and oh boy am I happy! This is PERFECT for me!

The reason I am posting here is I am curious if I may back up my phone onto my COMPUTER. Everyone seems to only be concerned with the custom recovery, which I don't want to start playing with until I am more understanding and comfortable with what I am doing. I bricked my phone a few times initially trying to get a root, I flashed it with the Firmware C and software MS77010c. Right now everything is working great I have installed and removed a few apps controlling CPU, and Kernels. So, I want to BACKKUP, and I want it done on my computer not my phone I don't have a external SD at the moment. From my understanding if i were to BRICK AGAIN, I could factory Reset, or get into e-mode, reflash, reroot, then how to restore? Or am I way off base?

Again my apologies for being so inexperienced, I HAVE done alot of reading around the site but it is alot to take in, and again seems everyones focus is on custom recovery backups.

Without root you can't backup your entire phone, including the OS, but you can back up apps and data. There are several backup apps available just to do this, although I can't personally recommend one as I don't use them.

Well that is my goal (to backup app and data only) as long as its verified by you experienced users. In doing this from my understanding I have a (near(permabrick)) failsafe method for testing ROMs, themes, etc. If I do screw up I can flash Firmware C (from my understanding unroots) followed by restoring the backup from computer, then rerooting. Correct?

If the purpose of backing up is a failsafe for testing custom roms, then I'd say just go ahead and root and make a nandroid of any stable install and one of stock. Then copy them off the phone for safekeeping.

You can always copy your nandroid to your comp. Using windows simply right click and copy to when you have it hooked up in mass storage mode. Alternatively upload it to a dropbox account that you can access from anywhere. Also with Titanium Backup Pro you can auto upload your Apps, data and settings to Dropbox.:)

As lunatic and pmb said, your best bet is to root, then backup. After you backup stock, connect to your computer and move the Nand to the comp. Alternatively, SD cards a really inexpensive. Get yourself one and you will be able to have your Nand on the SD card. I understand budgets and not being able to get stuff not accounted for in a budget, but like I said they are really inexpensive so one can be budgeted for and gotten fairly quickly.
