Totally Deleting Phone Contacts

Galaxy Y. I have found multiple versions of contacts on my phone. I have basically deleted them but get a message telling me to delete them to create memory space.
How do I do that as I can't find any trace of the deleted contacts?

Is there really no one out there who can advise on this problem?

Hmmmm if your device is like many of the android users Google control the contacts in order to deletion of a contact you will need to delete from Google first and it will sync the new order as they appear in Google. Inside of Google you may see what's been removed.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not quite sure what I need to do to find where the contacts are on Google. Can you give me a steer on that, please.
