touch pad question

my 4 buttons across the bottom of the screen have to be pressed kinda funny. if i hit the actual button, nothing happens. if i hit the edge of the screen and the black part of the label, it works. I basically press 1/4" higher than where the button is supposed to be.

anyone else have this? and is there any calibration (or something) that can be changed?

I noticed this too when I upgraded to a rooted version of 2.1. When I changed to Vanilla Droid, I could press the actual "button" and not the edge of the screen. It seems to vary from ROM to ROM. Very odd.

I have to hit mine between the bottom of the screen and the word or icon on the soft key...
