Help Touch screen goes dead

I have experienced this intermittent problem on my stock (not rooted) Optimus V: my touch screen will stop responding while I am in a text-entry window (e.g., email, text message). The only way I've been able to proceed is to power cycle the phone -- obviously inconvenient in the middle of a message. Has anyone else experienced this and/or know of a solution?

Are you using Swype? I had a similar problem before where Swype would freeze occasionally so I looked it up under the Settings->Applications menu (the same place where you normally force close or move 2 sd). I cleared its data and never saw a freeze since then.

Yes, I've been using Swype. I just tried your suggestion and will hope for the best. Thanks!
