Help touch screen locking up

My phone is apparently PMS-ing this week. Since Wednesday, the screen will lock up as I am typing a text, or browsing contacts. Then I will lock it and unlock it and it *****es out. Has anyone experienced this, or could give me some advice?

I've tried restarting the phone. I hard restarted it, and also took the battery out, and its just the same.

When I went to the verizon store with the issue, I walked in with the phone frozen. Because he couldnt personally freeze it again, he said nothing was wrong.

Well since the phone works I don't see a problem. Do you have the Play Store set to automatically update apps?

The same thing has been happening with my HTC Incredible for the last week. It randomly locks up... when charging, when doing nothing, when in use. Nothing has changed (by me) and there is plenty of memory available.

It has to be related to something updating causing a conflict. I have everything set to auto-update with Google Play.

I never use auto-update because updates freeze the phone unpredictably.
