It happened the other day, after a battery pull it would work for about 3 min and lock up... I did a factory reset and it worked for a couple days now it is doing it again... I didn't install any new apps either time... Anyone else have or hear about problems like this???

should I return it?

Jim

so I went to the verizon store and the tech support guy used the app atrackdog to tell me I have 47 apps running in the background (I thought the droid could only run 6) and that was causing the problems. (atrackdog does not tell you what is running it tells what needs updates).

He also said that they recommend not using the restore to factory setting that the phone has... why have it in the phone then.

And he said I "need" to use advanced task killer 3-4 times a day to kill all apps... and this should fix my problems.

seems a little fishy to me... lastly he said next time it locks up to just leave it locked up and bring it in...

sometimes I hate the verizon store...

He definitely has little to no idea what he is talking about. Most of those apps atrackdog found are probably Android processes that need to stay on at all times, also you should not need to use any task killers. Android/Linux is designed to put apps to "sleep" when they aren't being used, there is a few good threads you can find on that and some good info you will see with a google search or 2. You can definitely use the factory restore with no worries, it's a Android thing, not just a DROID feature. Unfortunately most VZW employees know squat about Android and haven't been trained properly. You will find more and better info on here and other places then you will from them. I do agree if it happens again you should try to bring it in ASAP, but I would just call customer support and tell them your DROID is acting up and you need a replacement, have them put a notation in your account so when you go to the store you won't have to deal with the reps.

I too was told by VZW advanced tech support not to do the factory data reset. I am on number 5 for different reasons. 2 never left the store they just would not activate at all. Mine is very fickle to say the least half the time the touch screen works great and the other half it only works when it wants to. I am praying the Dec11 update is the answer I am looking for. I am getting really tired of the force closes I constantly get with the default text app. I was even told by a VZW rep that the email was not on direct push and the only one that alerts is gmail. She was a dummy lol. Mine alerts with my MSN and AOL as long as ATK is not installed. And it does check at the time intervals on all 3 email accounts. Verizon should really train their people better. I have gone in on several occasions with basic questions and am told that they know nothing about the phone and have no clue as to the answer and to call tech support. Thank GOD for phandroid forums maybe VZW reps should follow them LOL.

I just got the droid today at Verizon, I am experiencing this as well.

When I try and reply to a text message and press in the text box, it does not pull up the keyboard or respond to my touch, if I spin it to landscape it still does not work, but if I type on the slider keyboard, it works fine.

Is this a known/common issue?

Maybe I should go back to sprint

Have you guys put a screen protector on the Droid? Some protectors can cause the touch sensitivity to not function properly.
Secondly, go back and tell that Verizon rep to learn about the phone before he speaks. As mentioned before, he has no idea what he's saying. Anyone who understands how the Android os works will tell you you should NOT kill all your apps running.

First, please don't go back to sprint.
Secondly, go to Settings -> language & keyboard and see if your "Android Keyboard" is checked. If it's not activated, the virtual keyboard will not show. If it already is checked, then take it back to Verizon.
