Touch Screen Not Responding

Over the last week, my rooted Hero has gone down hill quickly. It's a really random thing, but the screen does not respond to touches at all sometimes. When this issue happens, the physical buttons as well as the track ball work. Sometimes when I hit menu-menu, the screen will allow touch input, other times it will just sit there when touched. I've tried nandroid-ing back -- still happens. I've tried flashing a fresh ROM (CM7, AOSP, and LiquidSense) all with the same thing happening.

Since the fresh ROM's also had the problem, I immediately assumed it's a hardware thing. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I have the $7/mo insurance thing, will Sprint do anything for me? Also, should I un-root and install the stock ROM before taking it into them? Or would a SenseUI ROM like liquid be sufficient?

Thanks.

If you take it to Sprint, then yes, please unroot and flash the stock Android 2.1 with HTC Sense UI ROM. If you have the insurance, I would think they would offer you a refurbished Sprint HTC Hero or something equivalent to that.

It sounds hardware related to me too. If you tried multiple ROMs and they all have the same touchscreen issues, then that is a fairly sound conclusion to come to.

Okay. Is the correct RUU:

[RUU] Official 2.31.651.7 in ZIP Format, Flashable from Fastboot - xda-developers

Also, I'm due for an upgrade in December, do you think they'd give me my full discount on a new phone? They've gotta be itching to get that extra 10 bones a month out of me... lol

Yes. That .zip file will work just dandy.

If you had a full upgrade with Sprint Premier, and it was taken away on April 1st, like mine was, then you can ask Sprint for your full upgrade back. It should work, though I have not had the time to test it out, I have read on a few forums that people were able to get it back without too much trouble.

I just got to thinking... It is acting more strange day by day. Could this be repercussions from overclocking? It almost seems like it's under-performing. Almost like it only has a fraction of the RAM it should have.

I had my phone overclocked to 768 for the longest time. When I installed a fresh install of LiquidSense 2.1, it didn't do the touch screen issue as much. It still occasionally didn't work, but it seemed to be more stable.

Is this possible?

Just wanted to update -- I took my phone to Sprint, and they replaced the screen. All is well again. The insurance covered it, so it was a free repair.

That is great. I am glad they took care of it.

So, I guess it was just a screen problem after all. Thanks for the update.
