Touchpad....is it just me?

Been a week now with my Desire and I simply can't get used to the optical trackpad. Don't do a lot of browsing, but do a lot of texting, emailing and tweeting and I used to use my Hero trackball to move around text fields to correct mistakes. I find that the trackpad is so unsensitive that it takes me five or six "brushes" to make it go back one character. It's now quicker for me to backspace-delete and re-type things.

Does the trackpad "wear in" at all?

I think I'm beginning to find it behaves slightly differenly in different apps. But on the whole, I think you have to be smooth with you thumb and it should be better.

Smooth first, then you can try being fast.

I used the trackball on my Hero a lot, but I've found that the screen is so good with the Desire that I rarely need to use the optical pad at all.

Noticed that the touch pad on my new handset is much better than my previous... Couldn't get it to work more often than not, but this one is like using the track ball on my Hero...

@HYCAET - only time I ever really use it is when editing text. Say typing an email and notice two words back that I have an error. Trackball on Hero used to be easy to roll back and correct. Am finding I am backspacing and re-typing now as TouchPad is awful.

You might have a dodgy one like I did, this one is much much better...

Sounds like you may be right. But this Desire is a freebie from T-Mobile as a replacement for a G2/Hero and the time and agro it took for me to get it makes me wonder if I have the strength to try and get this one replaced. Have to go through the "sending off for repair" malarky.

How long you had it for?

Had mine from Orange for just over 2 weeks so they replaced it with a new one... Had the normal Orange branded one but now have the black Orange branded one - actually prefer the look of it!

But I really didnt get on with the trackpad on the first, very hit or miss, found that it worked better if I covered my thumb with a bit of clothing to use it but this one if great... It was kinda like the pad was too deep or recessed...

Try someone elses if you can...

I didn't know this either. Strangely enough, just today my TouchPad seems a lot better. Cannot believe it's somehow calibrating itself or anything. Odd.

I didn't know it, and I just tried it with an SMS message and the volume keys just made my ringer go up and down. Didn't move my cursor.

You'll need the keyboard mod found here to use the volume keys to scroll.

I find it much easier to do it with the volume keys.
