since the day i got the phone the very top right (in portrait) and in landscape does not respond. and when in portrait mode the BACK button on the keyboard doesnt work, and if you think about it that can be very annoying...so what i was thinking is when it gets rooted that replaces the touchscreen code correct? so would it fix my problem? ive been planning on rooting it for sometimes now since i got it just havent had time, and if it helps, my phone is on virgin mobile, but it says sprint on the front, and doesnt say virgin on the back, purchased new like this from wal mart, and i would take it back but i had to drive very far just to get the phone, any help would be great before i read up and root, i came from a triumph so its way different

The top right in portrait mode is the top left in landscape. Can you confirm this? Does the dead spot change in the different modes? Does the back button work in landscape?

Maybe not rooting but there are some ROMs with the touch screen updated drivers so you just never know if it could help or if it won't do anything. But it sounds like you just have a faulty phone with damaged hardware.

LOL

You can't answer my 3 questions with "exactly". I'll elaborate for you...

1. When in landscape, does the deadspot move, or is it still at the same part of the screen? (yes/no)

2. Does the back button work in landscape? (yes/no)

No, the dead spot stays the same, so when in landscape the back button works fine, but I can't drag down my status bar...believe it or not, this makes a big problem in a lot of apps, and some unusable

Why deal with a defective device, just return it and get a replacement. Rooting it won't do anything for a malfunctioning digitizer.
