Tracking Droid Software and Hardware Problems

What type of file is it?? you may need to download something like download crutch from the market.. it will allow you do download file formats android otherwise won't download..

but I'll be sure to chime in if anything crops up. EDIT: oops, spoke too soon!!
I cant save email attachments, at all! This may be more user error than phone. But as far as I have tried there is no option but to open, which lets me view or hear the attachment and then boots me right back to the email. no option to save.

If it's possible to add a pole to this thread, we should track the # of issues so they can be compared to the batch #. If it can't be added then we could start a new thread and post a link to it on this one. I've never created a thread with a pole so whoever likes the idea, feel free to run with it.

I don't know if the pole will let you select or enter your batch number AND a yes or no for having issues with it, of if it only lets you enter one variable. If the later is the case, just double the options with a Y or N for each one:

-39/09 Y
-39/09 N
-40/09 Y
-40/09 N

It would be interesting to see this info graphed out after some numbers come in.

I have a 39/09 myself and have had a few freezes and restarts, but I attribute them to the apps that I have installed. I know for a fact that some of them are not supported by 2.0 and/or are betas.

I'm am very thankful for this DROID forum. If I can't find it here, then I don't need it!

I have a 42/09 I got at Cincinnati VZW store on November 6.

Any issues up until now were all solved by killing or uninstalling some apps. I've never had an android/iphone/smartphone before, so I've been going crazy downloading and trying different apps that I've seen suggested here and there.

But now I have an issue with the STOCK TEXT MESSAGE program. If this needs moved to another thread, feel free to do so. As well as letting people know about issues, I'm hoping someone can help me solve the problem.

The problem started two nights ago. The MMS program keeps freezing and giving me a Force Close option. Here's the accompanying message:

Sorry! The application Messages (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force close.

This is funny. I launched the app so I could get the message when it came up, and wouldn't you know it, it's working fine! Hilarious. But, this is the message that has been coming up over the last two days, and at times it happened when I wasn't even using the program. I also failed to receive about 20 messages from work and friends. I Googled it and found that it's been an issue on other android phones.Any wisdom? THANKS!

I don't have a call waiting swap button when I get a call & I am already on the phone. Does anyone have the same problem?

Same thing happened with my camera. Things were great for awhile, then just last night I'm taking pics and the damn thing locks up and gives me an error. Do a couple battery pulls and still nothing, it affects my photoshop app and anything that has to do with the camera. My new one is coming tomorrow, we'll see how she is. My current one is a 40/09 by the way.

Mine was definitely rotating on the lock & home screens out of the box (without keyboard), and then suddenly as of today it isn't unless I slide out the keyboard. I thought I was going crazy until I read that other people have had the same issue!

40/09 by the way.

Check your display settings. Towards the bottom, there's an option to enable/disable rotation. Make sure it is set correctly.

Did you recently add any widgets or do you use a lot of them? If so, try taking the recent ones off, or just reduce the number of them, and see if your camera problems go away.

I remember mine doing that and then it stopped.

I hope they eventually fix this. It could be some of the widgets I installed.

Apps will auto rotate with the slide out keyboard closed.

Thanks, but yeah. I removed all the recent widgets and apps that weren't native or updated for droid, had the same problem, I even reformatted it and that didn't even work. I got my new one yesterday 43/09 and she seems to be in tip top shape.

Looks like the mfg number spread is now 38/09 to 43/09....

And still no apparent correlation to mfg code.

This thread has turned out to be some good info though...

but i REALLY wish a mod would step in and correct the thread title. its completely misleading, since there are no lemons in an "early batch".

Im having this issue as well.. ive verified that my Display - Orientation is in fact checked.. My build is 39/09.. and ive powered off / battery pulled.. same issue... im loving the phone, dont have many issues with it (if any any all aside from this).. but wondering if i should exchange it before my 30 days is up, or is this going to be fixed in the upcoming OTA update?

EDIT: Spoke too soon?? After doing this Pwr Cycle / battery pull, my picture widgets are now coming up blank?? The phone is currently in Airplane mode... but i dont think this should matter?

interesting note I had a 42/09 and the box read 10/26/09 then I returned it with a 39/09 but the box had a date of 10/23/09 so I'm not sure but with this new one as I'm typing this there is significant lag from the time I hit the keys and it showing up on the screen, is that normal?

I have the 39/09 build. Battery life isn't really that good. Other than that no real problems. Should I consider exchanging it before my 30 days are up? Ant opinions?

I guess the question about the orientation needs to be, should it change without pulling out the slide out keyboard.

I could have sworn mine did that when I got it.

Fantastic!

Hi All-

I have a 41/09 and I am having a freezing issue when I go and open my gmail icon. Either it freezes and I have to take the battery out or it is rebooting itself. Anyone else having this issue? I have had the phone for 4 days and it has happened twice. Let me know if this is something i should be worried about and return or just wait until the Dec 11 update.

Thanks!! :D

There has been a lot of posts about problems with the first batch of Droids with a lot of them being returned.

Is there a serial number series that identifies these early phones?

Or maybe some other manufacturing code?

I'll be getting mine soon and it would be nice to be able to avoid getting a Lemon.

Yes there is, after hrs s with tech support, and anyone who gets a replacment without. That code will be. Freeze, reboot free
Under the the battery on the white label it will have the manafacture date code 42/09

Could you please clarify this? Are you saying that 42/09 is suppposed to denote a bad batch, or that it is a good batch, or everything fter it is good? Your reply was not clear.

Thanks!

I am guessing 42/09 is a good one - b/c my phone has never rebooted without me wanting it to, has never randomly called / SMS'd anyone, an has never locked up (although yesterday when I was playing with Home++ it was acting pretty bad - but I have a theory about why that was happening - bad, bad SportsTap....)

Definitely no OOB issues other than the camera.

I am on # 5 I had 2 that I never left the store with cuz they would not activate at all. My earlier ones were all 39/09 I now have a 41/09. For the first 3 power cycles the battery sucked. Maybe 3 hrs to a charge with no use. Yesterday the battery lasted all day with pretty moderate use and I was only at 40% at 11 pm after starting at 5am. So maybe it is trained now. I have noticed that the screen was sluggish to wake up after a call , but it did finally do it. I have had the texting require a force close a couple times, and I have noticed that the screen acts like it doesn't work and then will work perfactly, maybe it is just moody lol. As compared to the first ones I had this one is alot better. As of yet I have not lost my data connection, which was a major problems on the others. So for the poll I have had 4 lemon 39/09 and 1 41/09 that seems to be working better. My store didn't have any 42/09 or newer I made them look to be sure before I accepted the latest phone.

I took mine back. Verizon said that I would be under the new $350 termination fee if I exchanged for a new one. Too many unresolved issues for me to accept that agreement. went to Sprint Hera and now T-mobile Mytouch. They all suck!

I think I'm heading back to my iphone. The whole android thing is a mess. The market blows and you have to sift through the soft porn to find real apps. You call any phone carrier and they blame either google or the phone manufacturer.

I'd have stayed with V and suffered as a test rat, but not with the $350 hand cuffs.
