Trade in Droid for Droid X

Hey guys!

I was researching it and was just thought you guys would know way faster than calling up Verizon and sneaking around with some questions.

I just upgraded to my droid on June 1st, and love it. OC'd to 1.2 with a beautiful BB v0.4 running like a CHEETAH

The new build of the Droid X and HUGE screen really intrigues me though and was wondering is there a way to return the droid and get the X on the 15th?

i'm past the 30 days so i was wondering what kind of extra money/or if it's even possible to do it without spending some big bones.

Thanks again guys!

If I were guessing...I'd say it's gonna seriously cost ya! I doubt that Verizon's gonna do a thing for ya :(
Just my $0.02.

that's what i thought...all this talk about gingerbread has got me nervous being outdated but i think some ROMS will be released that will make it all ok.

I was praying i could take out insurance on it (even thought i should have it anyway), then something would magically happen and even with all that said and done if i could exchange for a different phone.

oh verizon.

if you want insurance you better get it today. you only have 30 days to enroll.

You said you have a rooted phone. I may be wrong, but I predict that Gingerbread will be offered to rooted Droid users who over clock. I'm not panicking yet. ;)

Froyo wasn't supposed to come to the G1 because it doesn't meet the required specs, but it will be coming in the next iteration of CyanogenMod, and Google said they have faith that he will succeed because it IS technically possible. I assume the same is true for the Droid and Gingerbread.

just want to make sure I understand--if I have a mDroid from verizon not been tangled with from me....is this phone "ROOTED" ..and over or underclocking whats that mean-am I underclocked?

Well, the mDroid is an amazing piece of electronics. When you get your new phone, it comes UNROOTED, but through a process found on this website http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/82742-all-new-guide-all-things-root-related.html , you can ROOT your phone. From there, you can install a patch called a kernel that makes your phone's CPU run faster than the original 600mhz. Right now, on my Rooted phone, mine is runing at 1.1Ghz!. Just check in the "All things Root" section for more information.

holy crap ...thanks sooo much for that info...I WANT to ROOT mine soo it "rolls"..I figured since I will have it till I upgrade in FRKN 2012 there will prob be a multitude(sp) of awesomeness of phones...based on what some of what yous guys r saying I mine-as-well root and tap into the greatness of makn my phone better....

Hey guys I got my Droid in January and wondering if vz will let me upgrade to Droid X or Droid 2 whenever it comes out? I know that after a year I can switch but is there a way I can switch earlier than a year (even if I have to pay a fee) and how much might that cost?

What do you mean that you can trade in after a year? I'm on a two year contract, which is what Verizon makes you do, unless you want to pay full price for a Droid. Anyway, I've been looking for a loophole that will let me upgrade my Droid to one of the newer ones ( X or Droid2) when they come out.

I am also aware that even though it is a two year contract, you are actually eligible a couple months earlier than 24, maybe 20 months? So what would I have to do to convince Verizon to upgrade my phone for free or really cheap?

I would wait to even see if we will be able to even root the X...Also if you take your rooted phone back to VZW they will not like you very much to say the least... lol

im pretty sure there is annual upgrade verizon has .... but i think you need to be with Verizon for more than two years . Some one have info on this . Got my Droid on Launch Day (yes bubble keys : ). Im hoping i can upgrade when the year is up . Otherwise ima pay my etf and go with the Epic 4g until Verizon gets LTE up for handsets .

Not trying to derail the OP's post but was curious....

My gf has the Droid and is under her 30 days. I know the DX is 200 after mail in rebate and the Droid was 150 after mail in rebate....if she were to trade it in, would she pay the 50 dollar difference or would VZW make her return the mail in rebate, pay the 150, then receive another 100 rebate?

I beleive they would just make you pay the difference ($50) and the $35 restocking fee.

That's what I thought but just wanted to make sure. She LOVES her Droid but honestly never uses the keyboard and really likes the Droid X as she learns more about it :)

Lets say you just upgraded with a 2 year contract price on june 1st, 2010, then next year on june 1st, 2011, you think oh, the nexus 3 looks nice, i think i want that one. You can get a 1 year upgrade price at a slightly less subsidized rate than the 2 year contract, (around 50-$100 more) but it does add a 1 year onto your contract, meaning your contract will end june 1st, 2013. But who cares? The worlds gonna end in 2012 anyways fools. Also, you can repeat this process as many times as you feel like being trapped with verizon for another year.
