Re connecting the Note2 to a Mac

by default - its a no go (Im on OSX Lion 10.7)

Upon USB connection, the Note2 says "Connected as a Media Device"

But on the Mac - nothing is there - no pop ups , no connection.

So go to the Note2, inspect the upper left USB icon on the Top screen message area, click and it say:

"USB PC Connection

Connect as

MEdia Device (MTP)
Allows you to transfer media files in Windows, or using Android File Transfer on a Mac (see Android.com)

Android File Transfer

For Mac users only. You don't need extra software to connect your Android device to a Windows computer.
Android File Transfer is an application for Macintosh computers (running Mac OS X 10.5 or later) you can use to view and transfer files between your Mac and an Android device (running Android 3.0 or later).

Download and Install
Step 1: Click Download Now above.
Step 2: When the download completes, double-click androidfiletransfer.dmg.
Step 3: In the Installer window, drag Android File Transfer to Applications.
Use Android File Transfer
Use the USB cable that came with your Android device to connect it to your Mac.
Double-click Android File Transfer to open it the first time (subsequently, it opens automatically).
Browse the files and folders on your Android device, add folders, copy files up to 4GB to or from your Mac, delete files, and more.
Choose Help > Android File Transfer Help to learn more.

EDIT

Another important note

You must swipe the phone first and be sure you not on a locked home screen - prior to making the USB connection.

Dang, glad to see somebody got it working. Every time I plug my phone in I get this error.

Haven't done any troubleshooting yet. Just hope it's not because I have an older Mac.

Android File Transfer had NEVER worked for me. I gave up on that.

Thanks though for posting details instructions for those unfamiliar with what to do.

Yep...... same error. Mac running whatever OS came before Mountain Lion.

I tried using AFT on my original Evo, Photon, SG2 and gave up. Been using AirDroid without any issues.

Sweet, just gave airdroid a quick run through and I think it'll work for now. Thanks! I've been fighting with doubletwist all night to get music on my phone and airdroid did it in no time at all.

This app worked for me for a while, but then it just quit working out of the blue. I eventually ended up installing TWRP and a custom ROM on my phone, and TWRP wouldn't work with exFAT, just like OS X, so I ended up formatting my microSD card to fat32, and now I'm able to just pull the SD card out of my phone and plug it into my computer and transfer files that way. For a while between the time this program stopped working and now, I was using ES File Browser to FTP into my phone. This works pretty well, but obviously it's not as fast since it's over wifi.

Yes - thats very likely!

Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 is pure 64 bit and bulk of my hardware is not compatible (due to lack to 64 bit Mountain Lion USB drivers) - thats why I'm sticking with Lion OSX 10.7

seems to be a known problem with Mountain Lion

That sucks. Maybe it'll get updated later on to include ML support. For now though, Kies seems to be working ok, albeit very, very slowly.

I get the same error message. I have macbook running 10.7.5 and new note. Very discouraging.
Was only discouraging to me until I found other options. AirDroid works remarkably well for my needs. Popping the card into a reader and transferring that way works well too.

Another important note Re "Android Transfer for Mac OSX 10.3 - 10.7

You must swipe the phone first and be sure you not on a locked home screen - prior to making the USB connection.

Even that didn't work. Believe me, back when I was trying valiantly, nothing could get this to work on my macbook. I tried every solution the Internet and forums had to offer to no avail.

More times then not I wanted to revert back to Gingerbread from ICS until it hit me that I'm not connecting to my Mac that often. Other than connecting to the Mac, ICS was great.

Well, I FINALLY got AFT to work on my Mac OS X 10.8. The problem? Kies. I read on another forum where many users were having the same issue and one poster said his began working once he uninstalled Kies from his laptop. You have to use the uninstaller that comes with Kies so you may need to download it again. I did this and, VOILA!, it works. Now I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, Kies is completely useless.

You know I tried this last week and I guess I didn't do a clean enough uninstall, because it didn't work for me. However I just uninstalled Kies again and AFT finally worked for me. Thank you!

So what are y'all using to backup the data on the phone, if not Kies?

I use MyBackup Pro. Haven't touched Kies in 2 yrs.

For some unknown reason Android file transfer works with OS X 10.8.2 on my work computer, however it doesn't work on my home compter with the same OS system. I wonder which files am I supposed to have for android to properly work?

Have you done the uninstall as some have mentioned here? On another note, what exactly do you want to do with Kies that an alternative method couldn't do?
