Transfer files via USB cable to PC

I have tried to search for this one but all I get are results about USB OTG...and that isn't what i'm looking for.

I have my N7 connected via MTP using a USB cable to my Windows 7 laptop all drivers loaded and can browse the internal storage fine. I am trying to side load some apps and files and cannot do so. I have tried a simple copy and paste to a folder i was able to create, no luck. I tried to drag and drop and when i hover over the window for the N7 I get a circle with a line through it. I have tried with USB debugging enabled/disabled no luck. I would rather not have to rely on WiFi/Bluetooth/NFC to transfer larger files.

Has anyone had any luck with this? thanks.

dont think so, and it wouldn't work without rooting it anyway.

apparently it is possible to connect external storage via the micro usb if your rooted, but I havent seen the link yet.

you can get wifi enabled hard drives though for extra storage for about

Yes, you need to be rooted so you can use the StickMount app. Then you just need an OTG cable. I'm not exactly sure which kind. I haven't looked into that much. I have all my apps loaded on and still have over 12gb left.
