Root Transfering Contacts?

csnyder94

Newbie
I flashed over the CM7 rom on my TB and I can get everything to work and get all my apps back except for Verizon's backup assistant. Is there some way to get backup assistant over or for me to get my contacts from my current rom to my new rom? I would prefer to get Backup assistant back but I can't find it on the market nor will Titanium Pro recognize it as an app to batch over. Thanks

Nope backup assistant doesn't work on AOSP roms. I suggest restoring your backup and syncing your contacts with google then they should restore on your current rom.

Welcome to AF by the way!

Thanks for the welcome. How would you do that though? I cant save my contacts to my SIM or SD card, and my contacts aren't syncing up with my gmail account? It says it works from my stock rom with root, but it won't come back in the CM7 rom.

Hmm that is odd, if you go back to the stock rooted rom and choose to sync contacts then do a sync now it should save the info with google and that would be restored once you sign into your google account on CM7. I think you can save contacts to the SD or SIM but I am not exactly sure how as I have never really tried. You have flash gapps and signed into google correct?

If you go to settings, then accounts and sync and click on your gmail account does it have sync contacts checked?

When you get back on the stock rom, open your contacts and press menu, see if you can export them to the SD or SIM from there, then once you get back on CM go into contacts and press menu then try to inport contacts from either the SD or SIM where ever you saved them to previously.

Okay, try this. First go to the stock rom and use titanium to backup the system data for the contacts. Restore back to the CM rom, open titanium and go to preferences you are looking for the option to "migrate system data" (this is a pro feature only) check that and then restore data under contacts to see if that will bring them back for you.

Please make a backup of your rom first, if you get force closes after doing this then try clearing data from the contacts app in CM and rebooting if you still get force closes restore your backup.

I am out of ideas short of telling you to try other backup apps. have you forced a sync on the sense rom after making sure sync contacts was selected?

I have only ever used titanium, I think some people have used "my backup" or something like that, not sure if it would be any better with the contact info

How does people normally get their contacts to transfer over?

I have been using google for a while, even before I had an android. I had even synched my work BB to my google account. I really like to do it that way since it gives you access to your contacts from anywhere with a browser and an internet connection.

Just to be sure, have you:

  • Restore a nandroid of a sense ROM that has your contacts.
  • Remove the google account.
  • Re-add the google account back in (this should trigger it to ask you if you want to sync everything).
  • Wait for it to sync.
  • Check your google account via a browser to make sure your contacts are there.
  • Restore a nandroid of your AOSP rom.
  • Remove the google account.
  • Re-add the account and make it sync.

If that does not work I am at a loss.

It's not easy if they're on the phone only. You will need to export them to a file first and then import them. Google will have instructions I believe. I did it once for my kids but it was long ago and I forgot. But once you do it you're golden.

When the original Moto Droid first came out, I set up my contact list in gmail. If you haven't done it yet, it's worth it since problems like what you're having right now will never happen again.

If you use Gmail, open up your contacts. The accounts synced with my phone are in the list "My Contacts" which I'm guessing will be on yours as well but probably empty in your case. Basically, all you have to do is build your set of contacts on that list and it'll sync to your phone (past, future, present, and any device you sync your account with).

If u can't get anything else to work, Lookout(the security app) has a contact backup and restore feature. I haven't tried it but I assume it works.
