Help Transferring contents to microSD and firmware upgradation

Hello to all. I faced a lot of problems regarding the above mentioned issues and I posted a lot over here in this forum against which so many forumers came out with their generous help and co-operation. Then I came across that epoch-making and milestone like post "NOW EVERYONE CAN ROOT". I carefully went through that specific post and tried to understand with little intelligence of mine. After carefully weighing the pros and cons, I discovered the simple truth that it was just not my cup of tea. People with sound knowledge in science and engineering can only properly understand that. Because I thought that without understanding the nitty-gritties of the profound technical details one should not go for that sheer experimentation with a device that costs 11,000.00/_ INR. I had to keep in mind also that if by chance I committed a mistake, though unintentionally, my device might face a severe damage which the company itself might not be able to troubleshoot and repair. So, I waited for some days and one fine morning I dialled to LG Customer Care toll free number. The personnel strictly advised me not to root or unlock my device by myself and since the device is still under manufacturer's warranty, rather I should opt for any authorised LG Customer Service Centre. The solution is that the device needs to be upgraded to OS Version 2.2 from the default 1.6 which the service centre will provide you absolutely free of charge and it will be done within half an hour and you do not require to connect your valuable device to your home PC via USB data cable and then try to take such great risks.....that if it clicks it will be done otherwise God knows t1he rest.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Regarding, transferring the contents from the phone memory to microSD card, I was told that earlier the software developers did not develop such apps which can be moved to microSD in LG OPTIMUS GT540, and as a consequence, everything was stored in the phone memory causing the device slower and slower. Now, you can take it as a serious flaw or drawback. But now the software developers are making and uploading such apps which when downloaded and installed will ask for an option that would you like to save it in phone memory or memory card. Tap the memory card tab and the app will be saved in microSD. Beside, tap OI file manager, choose any app, keep it tapped for a while, a new window will pop up asking for three options move, rename, delete. Select any one you like to do.

So, what is the moral of the story?

1) Upgrade the firmware from the default 1.6 to 2.2 in an Authorised LG Service Centre and not by yourself by any means. Experts are excluded with due honour.

2) Check the latest Android Market from the device. Try to download latest apps and find out if they ask for the Save to microSD option. Now, get yourself a 32GB memory card and saves a lot of stuff without that root, partition, etc.

Easy, isn't it?

how well does our phone accept an 8GB memory card? was considering getting one.. worried about the lag though..
2GB seems a tad too little (a movie and a few songs at the most)
anyone with a high capacity mem card working fine plz comment

Thanks!

It supports SD upto 32GB...

I thought we were not getting a 2.2 update because flash is not supported by this phone. Anyway... I have rooted already but have not found a way to install or get app2sd or anything like it.

Thanks hitman87, but I'm not sure why I do not get access to the Apps 2 SD app from the android market. I can search for the link, scan the QR code but it doesn't open it. :(

On the appbrain site I get the following warning: "Your device has Android 2.1. However this app is for Android version 2.2 and higher".

So I guess that might be why.

Android 2.2 has the option of installing apps to sd.. however since u have rooted, u can install app2sd.. root your device by using z4mod root..

NO.. Rooting doesn't void warrenty... Google is already eager to supply users pre-rooted devices... Some of the apps (Not All) needs root access voids warrenty..

I don't want to contribute to misinformation, so yes you are right Nirob it does not void your warranty as in you are not physically opening the device or tampering any warranty seals.

But if for any reason something goes wrong during the rooting process (most likely not but still there's a small chance) or if the user starts wiping core/main apps and his/her phone malfunctions. The service center or where you send it to repair will not be very glad to find the phone rooted, but they should still repair it.

Mine comes without any warranty since LG doesn't offer it in USA in the first place (got it from amazon). So I try to read and understand the guides throughly before attempting anything. I'm still a n00b but I'm working on it :)
