Transferring from VM to T-Mobile

Hey guys, got a quick question. I'm looking to sell my Evo3d and buy an S2 or equivalent phone on Tmobile (Sprint data speeds suck hard where I live). I'm going to have to sell my phone before I can buy the new one (I'll have to use that money to make my new purchase) so I was wondering what the proper procedure is for deactivating my account and possibly transferring my number.

How would I go about deactivating my account before I sold the phone (I just started a new month last week and I expect to sell the phone sometime this week)? Would it be possible to port my current number to Tmo after selling the phone? Thanks for the help guys, I did some researching and couldn't find anything that answered my question fully.

Do you have another VM phone you can use to park your number until you can buy the T-Mobile phone? That's the best way I can think of to keep your number; otherwise, you'll lose it when you sell your phone and deactivate the account.

Both accounts have to be active for you to be able to port out your number, you can wipe the phone and sell it but I'm pretty sure once the new owner activates it without another phone tied to your account Virgin will close it out. You can always call but that doesn't guarantee any useful information.

I believe you can get a sim card activation kit from T-mobile and port your number to them and then sell your phone. The other option would be using a temp VM phone and keeping your VM service on it until after you sell the EVO. If you try the activation kit, be sure to check beforehand to be sure it works like I mentioned. I have not used t-mobile.

gotta give some help here because i just switched to tmobile, in order to get the $30 "walmart" plan (5 gb 100 mins) you need a sim kit and i was told it has to be a new account, ports cant get the $30 plan, i think you could port afterwards tho, however i would port your num to google voice so you can use it for talkatone later and just get a new one from them, but in a traditional port the old number gets deactivated and sometimes there can be a week where you have no phone on either service or outgoing on one but not on the other. if you aint goin for the $30 plan you should be fine porting tho.

Call T-Mobile while your VM account is still active... they should walk you through it. Ports are usually impossible to do manually, you have to call them.

P.S. Selling your EVO V 4G? I might be interested, PM me with details and we can talk?

You can only port your number if both accounts are live, I would try to do it about a week before your current month runs out so your not paying for 2 different carriers at the same time. :D

I think the note 2 is ****** awesome and an s3 would be cool to use on tmobiles prepaid plan. I honestly love my evo 3d and the phone is great but the service is just so shitty.. I can't stand it anymore.

I'm extremely lucky, I have excellent cell coverage in the whole state and 4G Wimax and LTE almost everywhere. I actually have great Wimax even in my basement entertainment room. I'm so looking forward to seeing a HTC Evo LTE or at least a Samsung GS3, Virgin usually gets Sprints phones after a year or so. :p

Dang, that's crazy. Supposedly where I live now has LTE service, but I don't know anyone with it. Plus the LTE phone virgin has isn't all that stellar. Now, if they released the Evo 4g LTE I might reconsider but it's going to be pretty expensive if I had to guess. I like the freedom T-Mobile has with its phones

4g on tmobile for me is 12Mbs down 3Mbs up, and that stuff has far reaching coverage, this aint the tmobile from 8 years ago. on vm i get 0.7 Mbs down 1.3 Mbs up. and 5 gb is awesome for semi infinite surfin AND talkatone calls, ive used 400 mb in 10 days (dont use pandora or netflix or youtube) but i do use navigation and download apps every day (i flash clean roms alot) i aint goin back...

What phone did you say you were using with vm, I really do want to switch, look at the speed differences!! ****!

Well, I have made the switch over to tmobile. I've had it for a day or two now and I must say the data speeds are about 15 times better. Got myself an HTC Amaze and I'm loving it so far. Only problem is the Amaze section of this forum is almost completely dead. Guess I'll be sticking around here then!
