Transform Ultra Phone Shuts Itself Off!

This is my first post here. My phone shuts itself off! The battery gets hot, then the phone goes dark, shows the Samsung logo and refuses to do anything else until I take the battery out. After I put the battery back in the phone comes on again, reboots and stays on until the battery gets hot again and shuts down the phone.

What in the world is going on?

Can someone tell me in simple terms what is happening and how to fix this problem? I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

Thanks for being patient if this issue has been discussed before. I really cannot afford a new phone right now.

Thank you for replying.

I just bought a new extended life battery last week. This problem has been happening before that purchase. Is a factory reset my only other hope? This will be the second one I will have had to get since I purchased this phone. I dread this option.

Please let me know any other options I might try if you can.

And how does one do a factory reset without sending the phone back to Samsung, which is what I did the first time, where they take forever to send back the phone?

Sincerely.

Good evening.

Where do you place your phone when it's charging and are you using it while it's charging? Once the phone overheats, it won't allow you to boot up. Once it cools down and that's typically between 5-10 minutes, it will boot normally. I noticed that when I charged my phone on my bed and there were either a sheet or a blanket on top of it, the battery and phone would show signs of overheating.

Hope this helps,

Aanairai

Thanks for your reply. The phone is still shutting off, just overheats, then I have to shut it down, take out the battery. It sure gets on my nerves. Don't know whether to get a new phone or not.
