traveling/background data

Im going to be travelling out of the country and wanted to know how to prevent the phone from using data. I know some apps automatically update and others such as weather bug run data in the background. How do I prevent this from happening?

Honestly, I'm not even sure if the Bionic would work outside the US so data through anything aside from wifi shouldn't be available. I could be wrong since I haven't left the US with bionic yet.

If you want to be safe, you can just put your phone in Airplane mode and turn on the wifi when you are at a location that has it available.

The Bionic will work in many countries as a CDMA phone. I have used it in Mexico. If you have international calling enabled by verizon customer service, that will enable global calling and data from another country too. To disable Data roaming simply go into phone settings, Battery and data manager, data delivery and then uncheck data roaming.

You can also use the Bionic as a GSM phone by enabling the GSM bands and setting the phone to WCDMA. You can then insert another SIM and use it everywhere else in the world. It even functions on AT&T's HSPA 3.5G network here in the USA.
