Root Triangle and exclamation point

I did some searching but haven't found anything that helps. I left my phone on the charger overnight and when I woke up this morning my phone had a triangle with an exclamation point and a little android guy. I couldn't get my phone to do anything with the power button so I pulled the battery and turned it back on. It powered up fine and got everything loaded on the home screen but after a few minutes it will say "Shutting Down" and go back to the triangle with an exclamation point. It just keeps doing this. My phone is rooted but it is running stock firmware and rom. I rooted it about 2 weeks ago and it had been working fine up until this point. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I posted this in another area but it was suggested I try it here. I did some searching but haven't found anything that helps. I thought it might have been an OTA update but I wasn't sure. If I press the menu button I get a ClockworkMod Recovery menu with several options. I am also able to get into hboot. Right after rooting my phone, I made a backup of my rom as well as backed up all of my applications with titanium backup. So can I just use ClockworkMod recovery and my backup rom to restore my phone or is there some better way around this? Also, is there any way to stop getting OTA updates? I plan on getting a different rom I just haven't gotten that adventurous yet.

You can restore your backup if you want and then flash a custom ROM.

One you flash a custom ROM you will stop receiving the OTA update.

according to this: Android Status bar Symbols and Notification icons
it is a problem with sign in/sync.

i would go into your settings>accounts and sync and see if any accounts are missing/not syncing or something.

Based on that image, it also looks like there was some sort of update that was attempted. Bottom right?

Yeahha is right. It tried to do an OTA update. I restored my backup rom and it got my phone working again. A couple of days later I caught it trying to do an OTA update again. It had the downloading symbol in the notification area (the downward pointing arrow) and when I checked it out it said downloading firmware. Thanks for all the help I received.
