Root Tried to install voodoo5 12/14 on fascinate HELP!!

jljones06

Newbie
Alright so I recently rooted my phone (successfully) and flashed super clean.4 rom and adrynalyne's 12/30 non-voodoo kernel. But last night I tried flashing jt1134's voodoo 12/14 kernel and I'm getting the following message (at the clockworkmod recovery screen)

"ClockworkMod Recovery v 2.5.1.0
Waiting for SD Card to mount (20s)
SD Car mounted...
ROM Manager Version 3.0.0.7
Preparing to install ROM...
--Installing: SDCARD:/clockworkmod/download/deodexed.com/ROMManagerManifest/jt1134/voodoo1214_test_voodoo_fascinate.zip
Finding update package..."

And it won't budge now. I havent tried anything at all in fear of bricking my phone (again) so I hope someone can help me!!:eek: Thanks!

I pulled battery, went into manual clockwork recovery mode to clear the dalvik cache and battery stats then rebooted, now it says its in "safe mode" should I still just try it again? I'm flashing it through rom manager, I am new to the whole voodoo kernel thing. :/

imo its always best to flash from cwr directly and avoid rom manager.

can you battery pull and 3 button recovery into cwr? from there you can try and restore a backup

yeah thats what i did the first time, i did the three button recovery method. so when it booted back up everything was working (all the apps etc.) so i opened rom manager and tried to flash the voodoo5 12/14 rom again and now its sitting at the samsung screen and a female voice is talking to me. this is good im guessing? lol

If you hear her voice then it should be working!

YES! It works! I just ran the quadrant full benchmark and it went from 909 to 1850! :) Now that I've got that going, Does this kernel already have the the graphics and sound improvements on it? or do I have to get that some other way? Thanks for all the help guys!

The kernel you flashed will not have voodoo sound implemented. Try Jt's 1/23, its a good one, I tried it. Or one of imnuts 1/30 voodoo kernels from the kernel thread. At this point, just make sure you flash voodoo kernels. If you ever want to flash a non-voodoo you need to disabel lagfix FIRST. You do that under the advanced tab in Red CWR.

Can I find any of those on ROM Manager? Because for some reason my phone won't sync up with windows or mac anymore. when i plug it into my mac it lets me mount it but then says its an unreadable drive. and with windows it mounts as a cd rom drive. :/

Either email them to yourself as an attachment or sign up for dropbox .....the post 1/20 kernels should fix the CD-ROM issue ....but try rebooting with your phone still plugged in to your computer.....that usually fixes it

Sweet, restarting it while it was plugged in worked. I found a thread where a lot of kernels were but im not really sure which one i should use. I'm running DL09 super clean.4 and currently have voodoo5 12/14 running. and I when I pick one and put it on my SD card I can just install it through CWM? or do I need to mess with odin?

After you have it on your sd card, boot into cwr, wipe cache partition and then flash. You will see a screen with blue words on it. It doesn't take long. Then you will reboot the system. Enjoy! Which kernel are you going to use?

Thanks! I just tried jt's 1/24 voodoo5 kernel but I think I might try out the 1/23 because its still recognizing my phone as a cd rom! >_<
