Ok, I had a few questions that perhaps the community could answer... At any rate, I was taking a close inspection of the back of my phone, and i wondered what in the world some of the things were.

1. The motorola logo on the back cover is actually held in place by the black plastic on the back of the cover... it's removable. Antenna? what is it? (I took it appart, lol)
2. What is it circled in red? Surely not a second microphone... that's too fancy for us prepaid pepes
3. The round circle thingy on the bottom is a cover for the antenna of the phone... I have no reason to think otherwise.
4. Camera
5. Flash

oh, and sorry for the absolute fail photoshop job... O.o... paint sucks though. :D

thing above battery is a noise thingy, for calling. or microphone and that circle thingy below cover is the cover for the antenna.

noise cancellation mic for that small hole.

the motorola logo is simply a motorola logo. I feel like they made this part modular so the IDEOS X6 and its variants can have different logos in there.

the bottom cover is a port to extend the antenna. its the same connector type that a WiFi card inside a PC or Laptop uses where the antenna plugs into, since it goes un used on this phone I have to assume its to plug an external antenna for debugging or testing purposes for the manufacturer.

on a side note, i have NEVER owned a phone that did NOT have that antenna connecter, even the very basic flip phones ive had from different carriers had a small rubber plug and that connector underneat it.

phones are probably required to have a antenna adapter, even if they go unused all the time.

yep, just looked at my old Optimus V, it has that port too under the battery.

So related to this, why is the back cover metal on the inside and has contacts on the edges to the internals? Is that for RF shielding? It seems odd to put it on the backside, the front would make sense to reduce radiation to the user. But the back? Unless it's an antenna booster.

I'm glad you noticed that.

I actually took apart my MT completely (the case snaps together and the plastic is so soft that you ruin it with anything other than a good spudger)

after seeing the internals, I believe its RF shielding or grounding.

Grounding is more likely, as it attributes to the weird moments where the touchscreen or cap buttons dont worry correctly when you hold the device a certain way.

I can repeatedly make my touchscreen not work correctly if I hold my palm against the battery door.

Edit* Also, in CM7, looking at the antenna DBm signal readings, theres no change when removing and replacing the battery door.

Yeah grounding makes more sense. Wonder why other phones don't have it and work just as well. It seems like a complicated way (& less reliable) to make things work.

Now I have a question:

Has anyone noticed a soft spot at the top right of the phone? I know my current one doesn't have it, but my second one did. (As in the top edge, not the top of the screen/backside)
