Newbie
i have an old moto triumph(now seems ancient compared to whats out now) but i havnt used it in a little less than a year so its been deactivated and such. im now looking to reactivate it and use it again but now it wont charge or turn on. nothing happens when i plug it into the wall charger and it reads unrecognizable device when i plug it into a computer. before i stopped using it, it worked perfectly. anyone know how i can get it working again?

Standard electronics troubleshooting matrix starting point is to verify the unit has power available. You may have the charge port issue SO the first thing you gotta do is put a voltmeter on that battery and check its voltage. Don't know what it calls "zero" on the phone's meter but I'm guessing you want about 4 volts. Gotta find a way to charge it externally if you don't.

On a side note if that phone's been kicking around in a drawer or similar for a year WITH THE BATTERY OUT OF THE PHONE clean the terminals of the charging port. Ideally with contact cleaner, and something like a paper towel doubled over. Hold the phone so the port is down, so liquid can't get in the phone. If you don't have any contact cleaner rubbing alcohol will do in a pinch. And check the charger side too.

I think that Li-ion batteries can discharge to the point where they won't take a charge using the typical "in-phone" scenario- I know some people use external chargers sometimes to get around this, but try searching around for something like "jump-start phone battery" & see what comes up...

I second the suggestions by rcsrich and batvette :)

In a worse scenario, the Triumph is known for the charging ports to just "go out".

I have owned a Triumph and spent countless hours in the forums and that was a common problem. Hopefully, this isn't the case and you can get your phone working again by externally charging the battery or possibly trying out a new battery.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck! :D

And this too. I was always very, very careful when plugging my MT in to make sure that there was not a lot of stress on the connector- a little paranoid, but then I never had problems with it either. :)

I never had any trouble with the port but I too was always careful with it. What's strange is, when I passed on to the Galaxy S2 I gave my Triumph to a dev... less than a month later he messaged me that the port had gone out!

Careful as I was mine went bad too. Currently using my Triumph with three batteries I swap out. It's a little hassle but it's doable until I scrape up the cash for a new phone with the right combination of value and appeal.

and that $25 a month is hard to leave... though thanks to another forum user I found something cheaper. Ting.

I made a plastic holder with leads that I slide the batteries into, I epoxied some molex pins and flattened them so they just line up with - and + contacts.

To the thread starter.... that battery should be at least 4.0 volts. Fully charged is about 4.11 volts. In as pinch any USB power source (5v)should bring it up. Ideally I charge mine at 4.2, I use a digital benchtop power supply so I can limit current to 1A and it only gives the battery what it wants.

When using any unorthodox charging method with Li-ion, just monitor heat and don't leave the house or anything like that unless you have the cell in a fireproof container. They actually sell such things at battery specialists online, bags to put the cell and charger in for safe charging that will contain them if they ignite.

I have some pretty severe flashlights I power with 18650's from notebook battery packs, never had one burn up yet.

I just was replacing my battery with a fresh one (I charge externally), I left the battery out for about 5 minutes, and since I put a fresh one in it won't turn on. YIKES !!! help if you've had this issue.

You verify voltage on that recharged battery? If that's not the issue, maybe the terminals on the battery are bent or worn and not making contact?
