Root Trouble booting into bootloader

MaddawgTL

Newbie
I'm having some problem booting in the bootloader, everytime I get into the bootloader it takes me straight hboot. I'm trying to flash a new rom as well as trying to get 4EXT to work. So what could I do to fix this?

Additional info, it says it is locked, s-off , hboot 1.57 .

you need to unlock your bootloader ---> HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader

surely you know better... they are separate why would you take the time to s-off and root etc without unlocking the bootloader?

I do know better it's a glitch with hboot 1.57 everything is unlocked now if anything he should downgrade his hboot

When I ran Juopunutbear S-OFF it looks like it relocked but it seems that 4EXT will allow me to flash roms. Also if you read the instructions in the post http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ing-evo-v-4g-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html it tells you to be in the bootloader, these were the instructions I was trying to use but 4ext looks like it will allow me to do the samething.

Yes with s-off there is no need to flash kernels using fastboot you can do it from the recovery and your hboot is your bootloader from there you can access fastboot by clicking fastboot and when connected to a computer you should see fastboot usb hope that answered some questions :)

You can't get s- off unless you first unlock your bootloader through htcdev.
After you get s- off your bootloader will say that it's locked, this doesn't matter. Once you have s- off you can flash anything. If it really bothers you just push the unlock token to the phone, no need to go back to htcdev again.

Thank you I was about to quote you too from another post :p you may be about 36 years older but you still kick ass with technology :)

with the sensation - twas a bit different. regardless what could it hurt?

I know allot of this but the problem is that when I cmdl into the bootloader it automatically goes to a screen asking do I want to update and then does not let me do anything else. I have removed any files used for rooting and all that so it must be something else. What my thinking is is that the sd card may need to be reformatted or repartitioned, may just pull an everything off of it, get an image of the card and then reformat.

Delete the PG86IMG file off your sd card before starting it up into the hboot

My post was in response to kagevazquez haha who insinuated that unlocking the bootloader was a silly idea.

Actually the Sensation is pretty much identical, the location for performing the wire trick is different but that's about it.

quick question : what is the wire trick lol I didnt have to do anything like that with any of the devices ive messed with. simply for curiosities sake (not intended to distract.)

The wire trick involves using special software and when instructed you place a wire on two points of your phone. It takes a pull down resistor low by grounding it to the sd card frame, this then puts the phone into an engineering boot.

If you have s-off then unlocking the bootloader is unnecessary, it gets relocked during the wire trick. Having s-off will allow you to install anything, even with the bootloader saying that it's locked.

again with the wire trick.. what is that?

from my understanding s-off and unlocked bootloader are separate. s-off allows radio access to write and an unlocked bootloader does just that "unlocks bootloader"

S-OFF just means that you have a super unlocked bootloader, it takes precedence so even though the bootloader says that it's locked you can still write whatever you want to the phone. You must unlock the bootloader at htcdev before getting s-off. Once unlocked all that you can really write is a rom, kernel is possible but not as easy, and no radio, or even changing the entire bootloader itself without s-off.

Yeah s-off unlocks the bootloader too on my wildfire s I didn't have to unlock with HTC just s-off and flash away lol so s-off does the unlock and even more
