Root Trouble installing CM7

CZ Eddie

Member
I have placed the CM7 custom ROM & google aps .zips at the root of my SD card. Then I open ROM Manager Premium and select the option to install ROM from SD card. But it doesn't see the ROM's listed there. What am I doing wrong?

edit: I was looking at wrong folder - I found the ROM and am trying it now.

Let us know if you got it. How is cm7 comparing to MIUI? I think MIUI is like absolutely awesome. Wonder wat cm7 on the infuse is like. let me know about the severity of the lag. MIUI the lag on a scale of 1-10 (10 being stock ROM) is around 3...

Not getting anywhere yet. I open ROM Manager. Select the option to install ROM from SD card. Select the new CM7 ROM. Then it says it has to reboot to install it. Then it just reboots into the Samsung Recovery instead of CWM, which was installed earlier today from the Market. So all it does is reflash the stock ROM.
Arghh this is so much more difficult than CM7 for my Inspire was!

Have you successfully installed clock work mod? If not then google it and follow the directions for the infuse only. I would direct you where, but mine was not that good, so just google it. You may also have to get the modded 3e. It should also have that in clockwork mod directions too, showing that it is a great place to know how to do it.

Thank you, I did find the 3e and that lets me boot into CWM now.
So now when I go to ROM Manager and choose to install from SD card and select the CM7 file, it reboots into CWM and then says it can't open the .zip.

It boots to CWM Recovery v2.5.1.2.
It mounts the SD card.
ROM Mgr ver. 4.5.0.1
Preparing to install ROM
Then says Installing...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/external_sd/update-cm-7.1.0-Infuse4G-KANG-090211.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.

I tried two different install files downloaded from different locations and both give the same error.

When I use CWM to browse the directory, it sees everything but CM7 .zip and the GoogleApps .zip file. It doesn't see those two.

LOL
I said "screwit" and got tired of fighting all day with CM7.
So I used ROM Manager to download and install the latest MIUI.
It finished the install and now the phone just power cycles over and over, never getting past the Samsung splash screen. I removed the battery but no change in problem.

It's time to eat. :D

Frack, this is not a good start to unbricking.

It's an INFUSE, not a Galaxy. How the frack did this get ROM'd as a Galaxy?!? I used the ROM Manager's built-in function to auto-select the ROM for me.

First of all, sorry for your problems. Did you follow the directions entirely? Anyway, get the infuse drivers from installing kies mini. It then should have it, put the phone into download mode. Then its time to restore. Miui was built off of the Galaxy series, so this is why maybe it is showing up like this. Wish you luck.

Thanks - I already had Samsung USB drivers installed.
But after installing the mini drivers and trying to enter "Download Mode" a different way, it then managed to work out.
Unbricked the phone. It's so far back to stock that ROM Manager isn't even there anymore.
Works great. I'll take a break before thinking about ROM'ing again.
I have no idea what I did wrong. Must have been a culmination of different things trying to get CM7 to work.

I thought that you should always install on the sdcard not the external sdcard.

Dude...LOL! did u flash MIUI two times?
The first flash u get stuck in boot loop u need to pull batery, 3 finger into CWM and fash MIUI again and boot and it will boot. LOL!

Can u please in a detailed manner explain what the problem is you are facing and how you got there. Explain in detail and u may not even have to go to stock. And ive gone to stock like 4 times so ive bricked the thing to a point where it needed to be JTAGGed otherwise meaning it had no boot image or recovery image and no download mode. ! lol so yeah no matter what infuse is immortal :D

ALso the prereq's for gettign miui is:
(assuming u are in total stock)
1. root
2. get modded 3e recovery
3. get CWM
4. flash Community v8 kernel
5. reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset
6. wipe cache partition
7. wipe dalvik cache
8. flash miui
9. reboot recovery
10. u will see blue cwm...flash miui once again
11. reboot system now!

The only cause im for sure is it was on the externel sd card. For some reason it does not work. I tried installing a touchwiz 4 from there and it made my only softbrick fixed by a nandroid restore.

I have no idea what I did wrong. Must have been a culmination of different things trying to get CM7 to work.

I ended up trying the CM7 thing all over again and this time it worked.
The only thing I know I did different this time is to set the permissions on the recovery file. I missed that step last time.
Maybe I did something else different also. Not sure. I'm new to all this ROM'ing stuff. Learning as I go here.

Haven't read the above posts yet.... just wanted to check in with my progress before I go to sleep.

Btw, before flashing CM7 tonight, I flashed the AT&T stock 2.3.5 gingerbread and it sucked. My AnTuTu scores went waaay downhill and my download speeds didn't improve. And it was laggy and 1/5 of the time my Internet wouldn't come on after powering up.
CM7 has improved my original stock AnTuTu scores and my download speeds improved *slightly* but still not as good as my HTC Inspire was. Nor is my upload. But pretty darn close. Especially since I only did it a couple times so far.

Which AT&T 2.3.5 ROM? there is no at&t rom are u talking about MIUI?
BTW i dont see any CM7 rom you can just flash from CWM anywhere? can u post the zip file here or give me a pointer to it?
Also whats the linpack stats on CM7?? my quadrant score in MIUI is 4940, AnTuTu is 4070, Linpack is 22.596 mflops

The links aren't being posted by anyone else, so I won't post the links either. But here are the file names.

I997UCKI4_UC_ATT.rar (I may be mis-using the term "ROM" on this)

update-cm-7.1.0-Infuse4G-KANG-090211.zip

Thats correct, but i wouldnt install this. This is a leak and could be extremely unstable. I do have the modem which is awesome, but it suck otherwise.

CM7 has been super snappy, very quick.
But there have been some problems. My applications button keeps disappearing. I have frequent problems connecting to the app store. My bluetooth connection to car stereo suddenly studders constantly. A few other little things.
I did get download speeds just above 5MBps once. It's averaging more like 1.5Mbps though. And says 3G instead of H most of the time. That could be the updated radio though.

I might give the MIUI a try.

MIUI developers say it has problems with bluetooth. So I didn't bother with it. I need bluetooth for my car radio & Pandora & making calls.
Not to mention, the first time I "bricked" my phone was while trying to install MIUI. Though that still could have just been me doing something wrong.

So I tried "Infused" just now.
Wow, smooth process.
Download & upload speeds were 4.5 down/1.2 up.
Speedy/responsive.
Interface just the way I want.
No gotchas yet.
Everything is smooth.
Does not have some added things like "themes" but that's okay, I can add those later on.
Bluetooth synched up to my car radio and Pandora and Phonebook worked on the first try.
I'm pretty happy so far. Not a single glitch or gotcha yet.

I had CM7 on my HTC Inspire (which I owned for about a week) and it worked well. But it just wasn't a good match for my Infuse.

Infused webpage:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088

Just noticed my radio/modem thing (Baseband Version) got downgraded to UCKI3 from UCKI5 during the Infused install. Well that's okay because everything is working better and may be faster.

Antutu scored 2931 with Infused.
This didn't score as high as CM7 did on the Infuse though.
Umodified (stock everything), my Infuse scored 3227. I don't remember what CM7 did but it was even higher.
Well, Antutu isn't exactly a scientific test.
And it's still better than the HTC Inspire which did 2792 stock.

Edit. Just realized I tested stock Infuse with external SD and then just now tested Infused Infuse with internal SD. So that would change score up a bit also.
