Root Trouble Rooting with Super One Click

Having trouble rooting my Samsung Galaxy Precedent. (straight Talk) Android v. 2.2.2
I'm using Super One Click and it keeps stopping on step #5 (waiting for device). I've even tried re-booting before the program stops responding, but to no avail.
Debugger is on, SD card removed,...still doesn't work. My question is: has anyone else had a similar problem, and have you found a solution? I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!
PS: I'm running Windows 8

There is no 'one-click' root for all devices. Rooting is achieved differently across different devices.

Thanks! Kinda new to rooting. Know my way 'round computers though. I'll try another program.

Just got it rooted! Here's what I did (maybe It'll help someone else):

PS: this is NOT my work. This method worked for me, but I will not be responsible if you brick your Precedent!

The Precedent is almost identical to the Prevail to the point where they both run on sprint towers. They pretty much use the same root method however it is implemented differently.

You will need
1 A micro USB Cable
2 KMS.zip File
3 Latest Samsung drivers (can be located on google easily)

STEPS FOR ROOTING PRECEDENT 2.2.2
1 Download and extract the KMS File
2 Install the Samsung drivers
3 Enable debug mode Settings/Applications/Development
4 once in debug mode wait for drivers to install
5 Power down the Precedent
6 Eject the SD card
7 Power up normally
8 When it displays the model number during the boot sequence run the batch file
(on vista or 7 right click the batch file and run as administrator)
9 The Precedent will reboot when completed
10 The message will say something like "you should have root"

The Precedent is the same phone as the Prevail

Except for the firmware. Don't flash a Prevail ROM to a Precedent.

Easyer way

Download arearom odin install
Install samsung g drivers
Put phone into downkoad mode
Flash

You are now rooted with custum rom and cwm and upgraded to gingerbread.
