I'm having troubles with an HTC-specific widget, but I don't know what to call it. I think it has a "People" or similar name.
The widget displays contacts from a designated group as defined within your "people" or "contacts" app. You might want to show Family or Favorites or RecentCalls in this widget. This is handy -- especially when driving. (See below for exact details about which widget I'm using.)
My problem: Once the widget displays a contact, it seems that the contact details are sticky to the widget. If I change the details with the "contacts" app, the widget continues to use the old details. For example, my daughter changed the number to reach her at work. I modified the contact data. However, the widget continues to dial the old number. I removed the widget and re-installed it to the desktop. It continues to use the old details.
Some widgets have a special gesture or contact point to open up settings without activating the edit-home-page feature of the launcher. I don't find one for this HTC-specific widget. If I press-hold the widget or a contact seeking access to its settings, the launcher takes over. I continue to use the default HTC launcher so I'd think that its widgets would play well.
Q1. How do I force the widget to absorb the new details?
Q2. Is there some way to open the per-contact details as held by this widget?
Q3. Is there some way to open the widget settings without remove and re-install at the launcher?

When you add a widget to one of the home pages, first you get a list.
In the list is an item named "widget." Select that item and get another list.
The first choice on the new list says, "HTC -- Browse all HTC widgets."
If you do that, there are several pages (~71) of fancy widgets. You scroll left-right, then press SELECT. That widget then drops onto your home page.
In my specific case, I choose one of the available "People" widgets. It is a full page of nine(9) boxes with each contact getting a box for the face photo. [Another is a column of three(3) boxes. Another is a full page, column of three boxes.]
