Help trouble with HTC-specific widget

I'm having troubles with an HTC-specific widget, but I don't know what to call it. I think it has a "People" or similar name.

The widget displays contacts from a designated group as defined within your "people" or "contacts" app. You might want to show Family or Favorites or RecentCalls in this widget. This is handy -- especially when driving. (See below for exact details about which widget I'm using.)

My problem:
Once the widget displays a contact, it seems that the contact details are sticky to the widget. If I change the details with the "contacts" app, the widget continues to use the old details. For example, my daughter changed the number to reach her at work. I modified the contact data. However, the widget continues to dial the old number. I removed the widget and re-installed it to the desktop. It continues to use the old details.

Some widgets have a special gesture or contact point to open up settings without activating the edit-home-page feature of the launcher. I don't find one for this HTC-specific widget. If I press-hold the widget or a contact seeking access to its settings, the launcher takes over. I continue to use the default HTC launcher so I'd think that its widgets would play well.

Q1. How do I force the widget to absorb the new details?

Q2. Is there some way to open the per-contact details as held by this widget?

Q3. Is there some way to open the widget settings without remove and re-install at the launcher?

=== Widget Details ===
When you add a widget to one of the home pages, first you get a list.
In the list is an item named "widget." Select that item and get another list.
The first choice on the new list says, "HTC -- Browse all HTC widgets."
If you do that, there are several pages (~71) of fancy widgets. You scroll left-right, then press SELECT. That widget then drops onto your home page.
In my specific case, I choose one of the available "People" widgets. It is a full page of nine(9) boxes with each contact getting a box for the face photo. [Another is a column of three(3) boxes. Another is a full page, column of three boxes.]

I'm pretty sure the People widget is just linking directly to the contact info from the People app.

Q1) It sounds like you added your daughter's new phone #, but didn't remove the old one. If that's the case, you need to change the default action in your daughter's contact card. Go into the People app and open her contact. Scroll to the bottom where it says "Set default action". Tap that and it will bring up all the different numbers and email addresses. Tap the one that calls the correct number

Q2) Just go to the People app in your App drawer and select the contact you want.

Q3) I believe the only settings for the actual widget are for the group that it's connected to. If you tap the Group button at the bottom of the widget it'll bring up all the members of that group. Then hit the Menu key and it'll allow you to edit the group (add or delete members, rearrange the order the members are displayed). To change what the widget does when you tap on an individuals button, you need to go into that contact and edit the default action as in Q1.

Hope that helps.

I did that, but the widget did not pick up the change to the new default.
I restarted the phone. No joy.
I removed and reloaded the widget to the launcher. No joy.

I know that i can edit details within the People app. I'm seeking ways to alter the details known to the People widget.

I don't see a group button. I see two buttons: "lines" and "star".
STAR brings up a menu where I can alter the sort order and similar for the displayed group.
LINES opens a chooser for which contacts app that I want to launch.

If I try to use the "People" app, I don't see any way to set a default action or primary number or such.

Sounds like the People widget on your phone works differently than the one mine. Sorry my info was not helpful.
Thanks for caring that you "didn't help" but no worries.

One of the troubles with Android and all lies in the fact that "people app" and "people widget" means a lot of different things. Not only must we worry about which edition of an app we talk about, but the name "people" itself might be several unique apps from different folks. Sigh.

Merci d'avance,
