How to Root and Clockworkmod the Samsung Epic 4G on EI22 Gingerbread - YouTube

Why can't I download the file exactly as it shows in the video? I can only download the attached file.

Struggling through what I assume is a video that hasn't been updated, I passed the Odin test (though it said fail briefly first!).

How to root the Samsung Epic 4G on Froyo and Gingerbread - YouTube

I moved on to the second video and downloaded the zip file. My phone will not open the zip file. When I boot into recovery, my menu is not like the one in the video at all. WTF am I doing wrong?

Is not having ClockWorkMod the issue (recovery menu not looking like one in video)?

Yes, not having ClockWorkMod is the issue. I would repeat the steps in the first video and then move on to the second to get a custom recovery on your phone. You need that to flash the zip file.

Now I can't get my SD card to mount to my PC even though it did last time. Epic? Epic POS this phone is.

The steps in the video work just fine. Some of the files have changed a bit as they've been updated, but you should be able to figure things out by following the videos. I was able to instal CWM5 on my Epic, and installed the GPS fix by following the steps in the video, and haven't had any trouble with my GPS since. I din't go so far as to root my phone, just installing the custom recovery will allow you to apply the GPS fix.

If your epic won't mount, then it is a driver issue. if you've had the phone mounted before, then that should mean your drivers are fine. Check the process you are using for mounting your epic.

Process? As I am mounting it different than before?

Tried this process again and after getting my updating my drivers for the hundredth time. Odin doesn't appear in the link in the video now. I googled it and downloaded it elsewhere. I couldn't pass the test and am stuck in download mode.

How do you get out of download mode so that you can at least use the phone?

Was able to pass the Odin Test for the GB Kernal so I was able to at least get my phone back working. Since I passed, I moved on and tried to pass the Odin test for recovery. I failed that. Why am I am so many ****ing problems? It seems I need to constantly reinstall my drivers.

Called Sprint's technical support and they said to do a hard reset. Chatting with Sprint's technical support online to find a better alternative.

Sprint's chat said that they fixed the problem and just wait an hour after the fix. I waited two hours later but nothing was fixed. Off to the Sprint store I go tomorrow. :(
